Who still can not "Ascend" and why?

Wat? My first character through killing Izaro was a totem build.

I can ascend but i refuse too. Gating a core aspect of the game behind anything (in this case a tomb rider look alike/clone) is straight up silly.

I think saying it is A) a core aspect and B) gates is an overly broad statement.

Effective leveling beyond mid 80's is also "gated" behind maps. Master crafting is gated behind master leveling. Act4 is gated behind act 3. Many passive skill points are gated behind quests.

You don't need a special drop or event to happen to be able to access the labyrinth. You just have to complete the prerequisite quests. It does take more time at one sitting than a single map or two does, but I would wager that it takes less time than the average person spends playing PoE at one sitting anyways.

There are exceptions - as noted by some players' posts in the forum on length of playing time, but they are not the rule.

Saying that this is a case of a "core" aspect is gated behind something is like saying that Talisman was gated behind the Talisman league. The core feature of the game is the labyrinth, not just the points it offers. Wanting free skill boosts without doing anything to earn them is like eating the mustard without the hot dog, or hitting level 100 without needing to hit level 99.

For those playing HC - I sympathize, but this comes with the territory. It is another whole new aspect to adapt to, but once the HC Labyrinth meta tactic has emerged, things will go on as usual.

In the mean time - survival is a matter of life and death (in game terms) - as it should be for HC. Anything less would be SC with a false mask of bravado.

THANK YOU!!! Someone that can read and post relevant information.

To answer your question, it depends.

Sometimes before you enter the Izaro area, you can see what kind of mechanics are going to be in there. They stand to the left and right of the door.

You don't always have to interact with the statues but usually it will make your run easier. Most of the ones I've seen are something to the extent of "curses entire area" or "buffs Izaro".

Sometimes there are side areas you can go to before entering Izaros area, that will help the fight. For instance, I think one was called "forgotten reliquary". If you did that area you got an "item" that said "permanently destroys one Izaro buff".

I'm not 100% sure, but the word on the street is if you do Izaro at his most powerful states, you get more items. So I think the idea behind the statues and such is a risk vs reward.

fyi totems block the poison/slow dart mechanic, pretty handy at times

Ok, I have not encountered all the different setups of Izaro as of yet.

Here's a list and what happens:

Conduits: These turn on and give Izaro powerful buffs, interact with them to turn them off. If you leave them on, he will have those buffs permanently.

Golems: If he reaches the golems, they become a part of him FOR THAT fight. Key point here is to kill the golems, while kiting Izaro away from them. (In the later fights, the golems spawn but don't become a part of him so you can just kill them if you miss, not as painful as some of the others)

Lieutenants: 1 by 1 a lieutenant will spawn to aid Izaro. Kill them all before you drop Izaro to the next stage.

Charges: There are 3 charge towers, once you use them you CANNOT use them again. Izaro builds up charges throughout the fight. They are basically a pure charge from what I can tell (combo of power/ endurance / frenzy). Lure him near a tower and use it to dispell the charges. Do this periodically, but try to save one for right before tipping Izaro to the next state, or he will have those charges permanently. (I didn't realize this was the mechanic the first time, as I had just done the statues. Lets say that I barely got him through that stage, and stage 3 Izaro was a 20 min fight that he won). NOTE: There is a Trinket you can find in the labyrinth that will recharge 1 of the dispell towers after usage.

Summoning Portals: Summons a bunch of adds to kill, pretty straightforward. I think you want to just kite Izaro until all the Portals have summoned and you have taken out all the adds. I haven't let this one go badly yet either.

OF NOTE: Letting the buffs stay SHOULD make final stage Izaro drop MORE keys for you to get MORE treasure and loot.

Well, ascending does tend to go to heights, which may be bad for someone with vertigo.

I find it interesting that those who for any reason can't Ascend yet say what is the problem. Maybe that somehow GGG can do something about it...
My case, Windows 32-bit user. Impossible to complete the labyrinth because it consumes too much RAM. Without something like checkpoints in each new area or at least a time of grace than 10 minutes after a crash I'll never get the Ascension.

What is your problem?

I don't know if this will help you or not, but just in case:

When I was still using a 32 bit system, I would crash out after several maps or new instances in a row. I found a couple of things helped with that.

1) Trying to run maps with similar tile sets and textures.
2) Running "textures=5" on the PoE Config file

Doing those 2 things would let me run a few more maps before the game crashed.

The default path for the config file is under Documents>MyGames>PathofExile>

and the file name is: production_Config.ini

Open the file with Notepad and search for the string:

texture_quality=

set the number after = to 5

The game will look like a pastel claymation video, but there might be just enough memory savings to get in the 4 or 5 different tile sets of the Labyrinth.

Thanks for the intentions to help, but I for very many time always play with -gc 2 and texture_quality=4, besides 800x600 resolution and other details, in an attempt to minimize the excessive consumption of RAM. I'm not new in trying to run the game...

I suspect that much of the crashes that people are being reported are for the same problem (running out of RAM). It's just that they have not realized because they are not used. But I've always had the same problem XD

Bethesda is known for having good ideas and terrible realization of them. GGG is a Bethesda subsidiary or what?
It took me lowering Graphics to "Ultra-Low" (Textures=5), Shutting Down every other Application (Steam,Skype,Anti-Virus,etc) just to make the Labyrinth near bearable. Without those I get disconnected from Labyrinth Areas from even just the basic projectile attacks of enemies. This doesn't happen on other areas though mind you...

So yeah It'll probably take me a long while or even a whole day to get through the Labyrinth on Cruel & Merciless. Its a miracle I finished Labyrinth Normal... (Plus how so many of the Challenges are gated inside the Labyrinth is just brutally bad for this League)
Just another Forum Signature in a Sea of Signatures.
Because im playing a hybrid build going into CI ...
And CI have no flasks... so i can basically never ascend because i play HC.
I did normal while leveling but its not worth a RIP because no flask on HC for power charges and regen.

This is all good to know. Pretty sure I accidentally left him fully charged when I beat his first phase (the only time I have) because I got part of a challenge completed. Oops.

Also, melee really sucks for this guy. :/
