Please Nerf Whirling Blades Harder
To be semi-constructive, I DO know some better ways that they could handle the balancing of it. Mostly, it'd boil down to two things:
1. Re-adjust the timing on the animations, to keep it useful as a short-term positioning skill, but reduce its effectiveness at being spammed. 2. Give the skill an effect of "reduced attack speed with this skill." (replacing simply lowering the base attack rate) This would more directly slow it down, but indirectly, it would increase the relative effectiveness of increased attack speed. This would reduce its utility to casters (who had no attack speed, and see a slower skill) while those who had invested heavily into attack speed (like any and all dagger and claw attackers) will see the sill work FAR quicker than a caster would. Why are some people so obsessed with nerfing skills they dont use? If they nerf it to the ground it will be shit. Instead, yes buff the other movement skills. If you want a nerf so damn bad then I suggest they remove the melee tag. At least then you couldnt Fortify with it. But even if they dont, I wont give a shit. I like it the way it is.

I think ACGIFT's second suggestion is very good.
The very definition of overpowered, stated many times, is 'too effective for too little investment!' My friend and I joke around a lot, making trash builds, then we say 'hey just use a dagger instead of wand, and then it's a good build'. Because whirling blades is that ridiculous. dodge like anything absurdly fast, suddenly our trash tier builds have good clear speed just because we can traverse the map faster than ever, add a defensive flask instead of quicksilver to play more aggressive and tank more hits, further play more aggressive because we know we can just bail out of a dangerous situation with whirling blades, sometimes have that fortify up for some free ehp in those run or die situation, etc... |

" I mean you're admitting you use it. You literally can't be against the idea of nerfing it if you're the guy who uses it. And why do I want it nerfed? So I know I'm not playing a rigged game where the chips are stacked against me just cause I'm not using the META dagger spells. I like having a fair chance to play my build without being required to assimilate to the "meta" spells and use daggers when I want to use Staves. PoE is all about being your own spec, and when you can't excel on the ladder because of this it's pretty awful and kills the entire purpose of the complex talent tree and skill system. AKA kills the entire purpose of the game. Last edited by Numeta#2416 on Mar 3, 2016, 12:53:47 AM

" First, that first part makes no sense. Second, "So I know I'm not playing a rigged game where the chips are stacked against you?" Really? That seems really pathetic. Who are you competing against? Get real. I just play for fun dude. I dont concern myself with what others are doing. If GGG wants to nerf it, fine. But I'm not gonna sit on the forums all day crying because I think it gives some other player an advantage that means NOTHING TO ME. Yeah WB is fucking great. So cry a river about it already or stop making all bow builds. And if your not excelling on the ladder that seems like a you problem to me. There are plenty of builds high up on the ladder that dont use it so your argument pretty invalid. |

" Real mature dude. At first I just thought you were crying like a kid. Turns out you are one. Last edited by Eben_GGG#0000 on Mar 3, 2016, 1:19:39 AM

" I disagree. That would kill the skill for me. What this is really about is crit casters getting access to what was originally a melee-based gtfo skill. The reason Flame Dash has a cooldown is because it's a spell, subject to cast speed and not subject to weapon choice. Not to mention it's a true teleport, whereas WB is a true pain in the arse the moment it runs into a pebble on the ground. If GGG were to theoretically make daggers no longer work with whirling blades, I reckon that'd shut people up right quick. It'd be too big a blow to legitimate dagger melee players, however. A cooldown is not the solution. A modifiable distance traveled would work a lot better. Just as a suggestion, make it based on evasion rating. :P Or maybe attack speed. Or dexterity. I think you know where I'm going with this. And just because I'm *that* awesome, I make it a point to never use Whirling Blades as a dagger caster because: a) I keep hoping GGG will somehow prevent people from doing it, so I choose not to get to used to relying on it; and b) it doesn't satisfy my thematic rigour. Dagger casters use LW or FD. Dagger melee (especially EV/ES) or trappers (whom I see as a dex/int hybrid style) get WB. And if the weapon allows, I use leap slam for mobility. :) The OP showed their hand about ten times so far in this thread, ranging from a crass, poorly written original post, personal attacks that have had to be removed by Support and telling someone to use 'leap slam' instead of whirling blades and that this will 'make them get good', perhaps ignoring that several weapon types that can use WB can't use Leap Slam, and vice versa. Thus I wasn't going to post at all in here, but sherkhan has proven receptive to (if not accepting of) polite contradiction in the past. So there y'go. Sorry I despise people who are blind to a huge balance inconsistency to one of my favorite games.

" Sorry you can't express that in a more rational, acceptable manner. Take heart though. Despite your approach, some pretty knowledgeable, experienced people have posted their feedback in here. This is definitely a conversation I plan to have at a later time with other people. Thank you for bringing it up. As a Responsible Whirling Blades user, I really failed to grasp that others might be abusing one of my favourite skills, a skill I've championed ever since it was put in. Rational would be nerfing Whirling blades + Fortify after the league it was released.
