Challenges aren't for everyone. They are for the hardcore players. Simply accept that and move on. I am trying to keep POE as a video game.. a very fun one. not a life style. I agree with you in principle, but i think it has to do with technical issues. GGG uses the temporary challenge leagues also as a way to test out new content that may or may not make it into the core game. The larger official Expansions, on the other hand, I think are more stable and tested and have more resources devoted to them. Some of the testing involving new Challenge content too, might be in seeing how well it scales with new players/new characters. But yeah... in general, I see a large gap between the casual players who maybe have career, family, dating, etc. offline lives vs. pro streamers and stuff whose economic and social lives more overlap gaming as an activity. Esp. in the races -- not just in the times of the races, but in the ability to actually score prizes in the 250+ zone. I'm a decent player with a flexible schedule, but some of those top tier players MUST be cheating. There's just no way I believe they can be the first to finish every single race on maps that aren't fixed seed. Besides, they're the top players and play all day everday. Why is Roger Federer (or insert any other individual in professional singles sports) always among the top players?
