Elemental Overload Keystone - Wow

ya this just seems like a bandaid. it will not replace crit multi in the slightest, as crit multi is very strong, and much stronger than this node. also i dislike the placement.

put some other factors together. crit gives you automatic status ailments and massive damage boost via multi. new elemental gem takes away status ailment but gives you more elemental damage (probably 49% max). this node takes away the crit damage but gives you 40% more damage....for 8 seconds? if you've crit in the last 8 seconds.

to me, this is going to be a node for people with like 5-10% crit. with such a hit rate as you can obtain with some skills and builds, you'll definitely crit even with such a low rate every 8 seconds, effectively just giving you a free 40% more elemental damage.

this is assuming this will last for 8 seconds. it says you get 40% more elemental damage if you've crit in the last 8 seconds, but that doesn't necessarily mean the effect lasts 8 seconds.

crit builds will definitely not be taking this. i just don't see it. most crit builds easily have 450% multi which destroys this nodes damage boost. this just seems like a bandaid on non crit builds to boost their damage and make them feel better about their horribly low dps rates

Gotta say I'll take it regardless of the sentiment behind.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

It's interresting choice for ignite builds imo. Double dipping makes ingite tick deal almost twice the damage (1.96 to be specific). To compare, crit build can have crit multi totalling ~4x initial damage (can be higher depending on wealth). In that setup, the burn deals 'only' half the damage of crit equivallent, while it is applied more reliably. Compared to crit build, you need:

- replace inc crit damage support gem into chance to ignite
- spec/gear for ele damage (obviously), which double dip on burn
- spec/gear a little into crit. Some power charges? Supporting skills with crit chance + PCoC, so you keep the buff up?

I wonder if this is going to be viable...

Edit: It is :)

Seems to fit perfectly with my favorite build type:
- 2x Doryani's Catalyst
- full elemental conversion
- Who cares about anything else for offense everything else in defense.

In fact, my Avatar of Fire infernal Blow scion can pick this node up for two points. With a damn-near standard multiplier, seems like a no-brainer.

This is perfect for low crit high attack/cast speed builds. You splash in just a little crit to get 40% more damage whereas before that took serious investment, especially for skills with low base crit.
I think a few of you guys don't really see the full picture here. Yes, Elemental Overload does not come close to the damage of a pure and well rounded crit build. But think of the flexibility it provides. I bet we'll see alot of characters picking up Annihilation, Doom Cast and Assassination to get to roughly 20-30% critical strike chance (the more cast per second the less crit chance will be needed). So a little investment in the passive tree nets you 40% more elemental damage. You don't need to worry about power charges, you are not forced to wear Rat's Nest and Maligaro's Virtuosity. This will work for any build that's dealing pure Elemental Damage.

TL;DR: This is not only an option for high cast speed low crit builds. This keystone will be the new normal for each and every elemental based build that does not want the heavy passive / gear investment.

personally i'd like to see an 80-100% more elemental damage for 4 seconds after critical strike. double the damage, lower the frequency of it being active.

with the changes to inc crit strikes gem adding some base crit as well as inc crit %, it would be interesting to see non-crit builds utilizing this support gem to actively seek this bonus provided by elemental overload. but alas doesn't seem to be that way.

i still see crit reigning supreme. and now RT just won't be used unless its already within your pathing and this it outside of it.
with base crit being manipulated via crit strikes gem and assassin ascendancy bonuses, i see the crit chance burden becoming much lower and thus more easily obtained.

sure this is a boost to people who don't want to do that, and thats great, i'll take it too on at least one of my builds, but it just seems like they're trying to divert our eyes from the crit meta that has always been here and will continue to always be.
i can't help but keep comparing this and everything to crit, especially now that base crit chance is a factor. just by going assassin and picking up power charges you can easily have 9-10% base crit chance on spells by having all of your power charges up (say 8). not to mention that is a boost of 120% crit multi as well.

just with having all of your power charges up you'd have a base crit rate of 50% crit chance without assassin's mark. CoC is going to dominate even harder in this league than the last. all spells having such high crit rate. CoC daggers having something like 75% crit rate without ANY PASSIVE TREE CRITICAL STRIKE CHANCE INVESTMENT.

invest a tiny bit into crit chance just on your way to picking up all of the crit damage you can, and you'll probably max your normal crit rate and have super high crit rate on all of your CoC spells along with a MASSIVE crit multi, so long as you have your power charges up, which isn't an issue with PCoC or any passive/item that basically gives you that effect.

they're boosting non crit builds damage, but i see it out of obligation in comparison to what i can see crit builds becoming.
with minimal gear and passive investment you can have such a high crit rate and HUGE crit damage that you can put everything else towards defense.

Sounds interesting... Where did you find this info?

Apparently you have not been watching Kripp play last night...
The wording suggests to me this won't work with totems/traps/mines which makes me a sad panda.

Also, won't this pigeonhole phys/chaos into crit to stay competitive with elemental? What about chaos skills that cannot crit (Essence Drain, Poison Arrow)?

im going to us it on my non crit build
