Yes, this is an actual (minor) spoiler

Quick question for the Australians/folks from Melbourne who might know: Is the seafood buffet station thing based on an actual/local joke or was that just random?

This is actually really good... The production value is insane! (It even has bloody Guy Pearce!) :O

My favourite part are the first five minutes. It does go a bit downhill from there but it was still very funny and well worth the watch.

and I kinda want a prequel now or a spin-off featuring Skulldrich. I just loved to watch that actor having so much fun with his role.

Better than I expected, but man, it was hella weird hearing 'Slice of Heaven' playing in an Australian production.

I know logically the song got some popularity on their side of the Tasman, but that song's fairly entrenched in the cultural identity over here - an immediately recognisable piece of kiwiana - and hearing it in this with all the Aussie accents threw me a bit.

Will probably give episode 2 a try at some point.

It got big from the Footrot Flats movie, Mark. And Footrot Flats was HUGE here. I was so into that as a kid. Dog just cracked me up.
Footrot Flats is also something that over here is seen as quintessentially Kiwi. Surprised to hear it got that big in Aus. When I read FF I notice all the references to NZ and Kiwi culture, but I can see that there's plenty which could have universal appeal in there as well - I'd imagine some of the specifically Kiwi stuff doesn't stand out as much to someone not primed to notice it.
