No-quality gem sink recipe (combine several gems to get a new random)
Right now there aren't any recipies for no-quality gems that are worth it unless you have very high ilvl rings/amulets that you want to get max implicit modifier on, and even then you only get a basic white item, which is still useless and needs to be crafted further to become useful.
My idea is the new reipe that by combining some number of no-quality gems (3 / 5 / 10, whatever number needed in order to be balanced) you get a completely random new gem, with a small chance of having quality. That would allow to quickly clean player's stash of unneeded gems, at the same time giving you a chance to receive a useful gem that you can use right away. Still relevant. No real recipes to dispose of them, aside from the current ones usable only for races or people who made their first char. Increasing Field of View in PoE: /1236921

i like this idea ALOT, specially since non quality gems that drop dont really have a use other than the ring recipe which isnt used all that often.

I've seen a lot of good ideas for non-qual gem recipes.
You need to exclude the first gem that drops, as well as at least the first quest gem. To see why you need to exclude the first gem that drops, start a game, kill the initial quest guy, and the log out, log back in, and do it again. At least this used to work: you would get a gem every time. With the first two award gems out of the picture, you might be able to do something like put a quality floor on gems where 0=1, and therefore (is it 40?) gems would be = 1 GCP. Or you could make several 0%Q gems = a jewelers. Or really, sky's the limit. But those 1st two gems gotta be outta da picture. ;-P |

A 3:1 recipe for a gem with +1% quality (ie 3 5% gems yield one 6% gem) wouldnt need to exclude the initial gems, by sheer weight of exponential maths: while a 5% gem would only require 3^5/2 (121.5) runs, a 20% would need 3^20/2 (1743392200.5) runs.
How long does it take to create a new toon and kill pillock? 1 minute? If it took only 1 second to do this it would still take 20178 days (>55 years) to gain one 20% gem. Im pretty sure you could farm for 20gcp in less time than this. Even a bot farm with 1000 concurrent farmers could only come up with 1 every three weeks, again assuming that a new character can be created, the game started, pillock killed, go to T, and walk back to the stash in one second. And the recipe takes no time to use. B. (assuming my math is even close to right) The Preceding message contains discretion.

" First, you don't need to kill hillock. There's a gem at the beginning. Start a new game. Kill the first guy watch the gem drop. Pick it up. Log out. Log back in. Kill the first guy. Watch the gem drop. This used to work, haven't checked lately. Second, you get 3 gems and change to 1Q. With 40 1Q gems, you use the 40Q = 1 GCP recipe. |

well the "sell x gems for a 1Q gem" idea is nice. if you think that 3gems make it to easy to get gcps, then make it 5 and it needs to be 5 of the same gem. means you need 5 same gems and that 40 times which is 200 gems for 1 gcp. i dont think this makes gcps TOO available, but it would make it easier to get some and to be able to pay the 500 exalteds that people want for decent gear. and if you say now "but then 1exalted will be like 15gcp in the end" you might be right, but its already way to expensive and with that recipe one had at least the chance to buy some stuff for gcps or update the used gems..
edit: even if the first mob drops the same gem over and over again, i dont many people are willing to log in and out 200 times for 1 gcp.. ☆*:.。. o(≧▽≦)o .。.:*☆ Last edited by Milani#4424 on May 25, 2013, 6:38:29 PM

" You've never seen a bot then. Or a typical Korean grinder. I've seen real players grind the mess out of maps for items that drop at a .01% rate (that's 1 per 10,000). Grinding a 2 minute or so area 200 times for a gcp is nothing to them. Drop the quality mess. Just leave it at "give 3 gems of a particular color, get a random gem of the same color at same quality as the lowest gem you used (so 0%, 4%, 20% will give a 0% gem. Note if you care at all about the quality just use the same quality)." Worst you get is people grinding for drop-only gems. Honestly, I don't think it'll be too bad to have drop-only gems be easier to obtain. None are game breaking at L1-0 quality. There's a fraction of players who like consistency and predictability: killing boss X will yield item Y.
This game really isn't for people like that. This game is for people who'll do the same area over and again because they know..., a Mirror can drop anywhere, anytime. - CharanJaydemyr |
