Are you a core player?

"Path of Exile was also a popular choice back in 2013 when the game launched, and it served well as the true rival of Diablo III. But similarly to Diablo III, Path of Exile is also bound to lose a significant amount of players over time and in the end, only the core players will remain."

I would be a core player if I would get the damn map to drop :'(
Definig Path of Exile or Diablo 3 as MMOs is just hilariously ignorant and stupid. And this comes from an mmo site ... pathetic.

Well, GGG themselves placed some of ascendancy classes reveals on MMO sites. They had it coming :P
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

Is PoE a MMO?

Lets break it down:

Massive Multiplayer Online.

Massive - quite a bit people online, you can see other people in towns. check
Multiplayer - party play, trading. check
Online - you can't play offline. check.

Well guys, who'd expect?! PoE is a MMO!

What you might be confused with, is that most MMORPGs are the same, boring and messy games. PoE is not that, but it doesn't mean PoE is not an MMO. (well, PoE is a little messy... but still) :v

And lets be clear again - self-found is players choice, and not a design. You can play every other MMORPG self-found, but it doesn't mean game is not a MMO.

On-topic:

Am I? Probably. Recently I'm getting burned down, and disappointed by the tempo GGG has set for themselves. They keep on pushing more and more content, that is (sadly) mostly boring and/or broken.
Chris said that Talisman was most successful league so far, but I doubt most core players would agree with that.

Player count ≠ good league
Marketing = player count

If anything, Talisman's poor design ruined retention of players. (imho)

MMO(RPG) implies a massive number of players in the same instance, working together or fighting each other. Come on, old and boring argument is both old and boring. No game after which PoE fashions itself or from which it draws inspiration was an MMO either.

Define massive. :P Is maximum number of players in party in PoE massive enough? Or it is some arbitrary number, set by Gaming Council of some sort? Again, PoE is not standard MMO, you may even say that it only has some MMO elements. It still isn't D2, where you had little market, with no poe.trade and other MASSIVE place to trade items. (Well, there were sites, and forums... still it wasn't as prominent.) Being an MMO is not anything bad, btw. :v

Used to have hope and high expectations about this game , not anymore.

I wouldn't call myself a core player .

MMO isn't as massively as people thought. They have limit on how many people can play together. They have servers, zones, party, dungeon limit. These games can have very high threshold like a few hundred or a few thousand in an area. Going over that limit, the game will place additional players in an different instance. In POE, you have FPS drop with 6 players, imagine POE with a few hundred players in battle. It is a technical limitation.
