Would there be a downside to putting an auction house in at this point?

I never played D3 when it had a AH, only been playing games on PC for the last couple of years. I used to play Fifa Ultimate Team on consoles which has an AH. Only the top few players were worth anything, Most players were worth nothing.

If you put a player up for sale that was slightly under priced, Even by a 50-100 coins (equiv of a few Alt's or an Alch on Poe) it was bought instantly by autobuyers/flippers. This drove the price up of any player worth anything and the only way to afford them was to either play a shit ton of games or to buy player packs with real money. Fifa also had a limit to how many things you could trade at anytime.

The same will happen to Poe if we get an AH.
AH would be a lot cooler than what we currently have.

Nothing.

Trading is fine if you have an attention span greater than a gnats

An AH would only mean that the people moaning here about one will spend all their time on it getting under cut by rich people and coming here moaning about it, and the people that want to buy might get some nice stuff but in general will get caught in price fixing by a monopoly on certain items...just think what will happen when someone fills the AH with shit just before a patch to catch out idiots that will think it's going legacy or the "scams" that will be had because people tend not to pay attention when they click stuff

This is not that simple. When talking about whether or not an auction house would change anything "at this point", we have to take different leagues into consideration.
In standard league, would it? I think not. (although I never played standard, but I can imagine the situation there. Tons of loot accumulated probably...)
BUT...in temporary leagues, would it? Sure would!

Nonetheless, here's the error in your stream of thought: You assume that at this point, the majority of the PoE community does use poe.trade. This is not true. And this is what holds back items from losing whatever value they have.
If there was an AH, there would be tons more gear in circulation in the market. Basicly there would be a huge supply of even the most high-end items. No drop would have a meaning. So to compensate, the drop rates of items would be reduced tremendously. To the point where you couldn't hope for any decent drop at all.

My account that im posting from currently doesnt show it. But ive been here since closed beta. Not only that ive played every Diablo released in their "primes". AH is simply more effective than not. Do I mind trading in threads or spamming chat? No, but theres more effective ways. Im really not concernced with carebears crying about people buying up items and driving the price up. The same thing happen with or w/o an AH.

The same scams people fall for on an AH, they also do here on the trading forums as well.

What this comes down to is having personal time to be able to get rid of items and make some cash while im at work etc. This is a video game, if you aren't smart enough to understand/realize the markets and the variations and variables of said market then AH or no AH you are still going to get the shit end of the stick.

This is simply about being more efficient . No reason I should have to go through all of the troubles you currently have to, to trade an item.
TLDR whole post... bottom line is trading is finally being addressed and we have already been told there will be no auction house. This horse died so long ago the bones are dust...

Maybe read one of the the other 3 thousand pointless topics about this to find the arguments you are looking for. Jeez, this crap comes back every week.

Until GGG introduces an actual trade system this will keep coming up

and if/when we get an actual trade system then people will make threads bitching about it and how it ruined the game and they are quitting lol

Trading is working fine as it is. Not GGG's problem people are to lazy to do anything these days.
lol they dont have problems taking my lazy money and not improving trade.

Much worse, Poe.trade is nothing like AH:

- delay between listing offer and indexing it
- obscure
- inconvenient
- require buyer and seller to meet in game

It makes trading annoying and taxes every deal with the most precious thing ever: your time. In other words, it discourages players from trading. Which is good, because it's an aRPG, not trading simulator. You are supposed to kill things and be happy for loot they dropped, not stare at item listings.

totally agree
I don't know why they don't just add a feature where there's kind of like a public stash, where people can put items, other people to can search the item, and then you just know the trader's name and have to trade in person.

It would only work while you're online, but at the start of your gaming session you could post a bunch of stuff you want to sell then be on with your business, farming, etc.

in an interview they said they had implemented such a system by having a "sales master" in your hideout who would offer your items to visitors.

reason it was scrapped was it doesn't prevent players from specifying buyouts combined with an more or less automated trade system. was considered bad for the game.

the current system also allows specifying buyouts but the trade action can't be reliably done by bots. at least not without raising suspicions on some occasions.
