Thoughts on trading's place in ARPGs

If people can have a logical discussion based on experience I'm open for it, a few people have shown they simply lack the experience on some topics to make an informed post about it.

In terms of addressing what you said @morbo I think its completely relative to the topic of trading in this thread so I dont think its necessary to hide it.

"

Since 2.0 and all the nerfs to map drops, you need to pump some serious orbs into 76/77+ maps. Chis, chaos spam (not because of difficulty, but because you need 5+ affixes), vaal, sac. frag... then Zana mods at 80+. This is not doable as non-trader and is basically the only reason I do have a small shop in temp leaguse - to cover gameplay expenses in mid-high endgame.

All of that investment for 80+ really should be required, those maps aren't designed to be sustainable, but people have proven they can be with significant investment.

"
That's if you are lucky with map drops, but as you can prob. see from forum feedback, many people have to buy their maps (and its not always because they "dont roll them properly").

I think people move up in tiers probably too quickly. Yes it kinda sucks doing Tier 6 maps at level 85 as you aren't getting that great of XP, but honestly its not that bad, if you didn't rush up in tiers and slowly worked your way up, people would have less issues.

In the end though some people are just going to have terrible RNG, not sure how GGG can fix this without unnecessarily buffing the drop rates for people that don't need it. I'll agree it needs work, I don't necessarily agree people "have to" buy maps, the alternative is to do lower tier maps and grind back up again.

"
But playing up to 75s maps is doable solo SF for everyone, that is true.

IMO up to 77-78 should be fairly easy to sustain, this isn't as much of the case, partly because people are still avoiding various map bosses.

I think its funny that people just think I defend the game, I actually don't like various things they have done and they definitely have room to improve.

OMG, this is golden after your reply to morbo.
Casually casual.

Every map drops at least 4 chisels, or 4 gavels, 16 whetstones and 4 low level maps, or between 9 and 32 superior low maps, or a combination of the 3.

You know gavels can be found elsewhere? Just like everything else needed to complete the recipe. The fact of the matter is if you don't want to trade for chisels you can make them yourself, but that takes time outside of your precious maps, or like I suggested do lower level maps that don't require the chisels to roll them.

On average its not uncommon to get most of these in a map, the question is are you willing to drop a rare item or a good base to get the gavel for the recipe?

"

Goetz, listen to morbo, he knows wtf he is talking about, because he is talking from experience. You, are not, and it is glaringly obvious.

Really going to make this personal. Its clear you didn't read a single thing I wrote. I won't waste my breath responding to anything else you have to say on this thread, simply because you can't address the topics and resort directly to a personal attack.

You want to judge my experience while you sit on standard and play your level 100 character because its simply too challenging for you to try anything new. Get real

Funnily enough you don't have to chisel every single map you do, many people only do the very best map bases and still sustain, although you wouldn't have any clue what that is like because you have maps because of pre nerf cartos and pre 2.0 changes. How about you remove all your tier 8+ maps and start over and share your experiences, its clear you don't need the XP anymore, lets see if you can have relative recent experience with mapping, because I do, I level MANY characters in temp leagues, while you play 1 that hasn't leveled in ages.

WTH did I just read? I'm, like, I'm....

OK... "the question is are you willing to drop a rare item or a good base to get the gavel for the recipe?"

What?

"You want to judge my experience while you sit on standard and play your level 100 character because its simply too challenging for you to try anything new. Get real"

When do I play lvl 100 characters? Like, seriously, WTF?

"Funnily enough you don't have to chisel every single map you do, many people only do the very best map bases and still sustain, although you wouldn't have any clue what that is like because you have maps because of pre nerf cartos and pre 2.0 changes. "

My map pool has been emptied, 0, none, nothing left, several times since cartos were nerfed.

"How about you remove all your tier 8+ maps and start over and share your experiences"

I did that with 2.0. I actually did it on purpose and said I wanted to experience mapping from the new 68 bottom tier. I had no legacy maps, no maps at all starting 2.0. I turned every low map I had into alchemy shards and the game had already taken my high maps.

I have no idea how this thread reached this current state...

@Goetz, please stop.
I can tell you at least one wall-of-text worth of how much respect I have for Morbo's knowledge and his playing and character-building skills, and how as a follower of Anuhart's stream he's got a lot more than one level 100 char - some with radically different builds - painfully leveled self-found.

but instead I'll just ask you to get back on topic and comment more on Scrotie's suggestions.

@Ashen & @Scrotie, you're probably right about the buyouts and the Orbs being doomed to always serve as "currency" (a.k.a "dollars") first, and everything else second.
doesn't mean I should stop dreaming of item-for-item trade. one that's not necessarily "my Mirror Dagger for your Mirror Shield" trade.
Alva: I'm sweating like a hog in heat
Shadow: That was fun

Because morbo made this statement, which I wholeheartedly agree with.

Then goetz happened, and after a load of crap concerning stuff he has no experience with, then laid down this beauty.

@theanuhart

Why is the majority of your post in regards to something I post and you disagree with.

Its really fucking annoying that all you can muster up to contribute to the forums is to "call me out on stuff"

It was a discussion between me and @morbo, has absolutely nothing to do with you.

In addition I have experience with mapping, I didn't get my level 94 character in tempest to that level just doing freaking dried lake. Its really freaking annoying that you post such ignorant comments almost exclusively to my replies simply because I disagreed with topics you made or responded to in the past.

"I have experience with mapping"

Not nearly as much as morbo or Anuhart. Try again.

Playing flavor builds to high levels doesn't make you good at the game.
