What do you do when you hit a brick wall?
Wurm's molt is definitly a decent cheap low level item, another one would be goldrim cap. However as good as they are for leveling purposes, they present no synergies. You say a void batery is merely a more DPS weapon. By itself, it is not, you'd need it to synergise with at least PCoC. However using incinerate which does not crit and romira's banquet, now you get a real synergy between 2 uniques and a very specific gem (since it is the only non crit spell).
Now, Maybe there are some end game viable items that are cheap and can create interesting synergies, however if there are, they are so few that I've just missed them entirely. i can grab so many end game items and think of crazy synergies and that is what is fun. The atziri's displeasure. Yeah, no synergy, for my axe build it would be perfect. It would not be fun as the build really isn't, it is merely what i'd need then anyway. I general I don't care for those items and when I try to make any build I aim specificly for items that create synergies. Now, yes, I could limit what I pick up and what I don't. But really, everything is worth something when you sell. I don't need to spend less a minute or two in a map by not picking everything up. I don't need to be efficient like that, picking everything rare up and selling maybe be slightly less efficient, but not so much that it would be a bother and besides, I hate leaving good stuff behind. As for picking up small space ocupancy blues... Heh, I don't because of a few reasons. Often they are worth a scroll fragment and really, unless i can get some alt shards out of it, I don't bother. The second reason is that if I am identifying quite a few blues I'm not sure that my scrolls will hold. With just rares I get excess but with added blues it might actually start dropping. I may try it for a while after I level my archer to mapping points. Gonna use a tabula for a while so defenses will be meh but I guess DPS will increase significantly. I was thinking of actually start doing the unidentified chaos recipe instead though. Unless the item is a potential upgrade for the character then just not bother with it being possibly very good, just leave that for items that are already worth regal recipe. Since I have some decent items for sale and they are not going out, might as well just gain double value out of chaos recipes, only identify excess rares for more alt shards and alch shards. The stars cried out And under the ashes of infinity Hope, scarred and bleeding breathed it's last." |

I sometimes do regal recipe, Ive been doing it recently because Ive been out of regals for a while as Ive been using them a lot with jewels. But usually i dont do chaos recipe or regal recipe at all, and I would never do it unid, but many people do and seem to make a decent amount from it.
Personally I just sell rare items I find and the occasional unique, thats where basically all my wealth comes from, selling rares Ive either found or traded for in the past and now dont see any future use for. Very rarely do recipes, dont bother flipping anything, I feel like selling rares is a really under appreciated way to make orbs. Its the bread and butter of making wealth but people always seem to talk about flipping and recipes like theyre something you need to do. Not knocking them but you can just sell rares and make significant wealth. I dont usually recommend my way of making wealth to people because unlike most people I play up to 10 hours a day when Im actively trying to stack orbs, if you are playing that amount of time you can make a lot more orbs than gathering 10 chaos a day from recipes or whatever. You doubt crit bow builds work with bad gear, but with self found bow builds in temp leagues, mfing with low amounts, like 150iir at the start of a league I can make enough fusing to bench 6 link an item every week just selling stuff from my shop that i find grinding the first 4 or 5 tiers of maps. No recipes, no flipping, no tricks, just grind, list items, sell items. 2 fuse for this one, 3 for that one, 10 for that one, few ex for this thing, it stacks up. Do it for 15 days, you now have 3000 fusing and you can 6 link a disfavour and a sick rare chest, then go play a mental melee build that can crush a Colosseum map. The more you do that the more you build up a stock of gear in standard, you outgrow items that are worth 20-30 exalts each, now youre able to pull in 100+ exalts a week at busy times by selling 2 or 3 key bits of gear and then backing it up for 100 random smaller sales. Then you are buying gear worth 60, 70, 100, 200 exalts which invalidates all your 20-30ex gear and you can sell all of that shit uve been building up. I feel like thats how you get to where you want to be, it starts with running around in vendor trash and is sustained by running around in vendor trash every new league. Ive been sat there in a temp league 20 days in with over 4000 fusing in my stash and Im using a bow I could upgrade for 10 chaos, and I dont bother because I have a good bow on standard already, bows arnt on my shopping list for that league. Then people in my guild will think Im mental because I buy a pair of boots or a hat for 10ex and i dont even need it for my character, could get a not quite so good hat or boot for 10 chaos that would do the same thing. But im buying it because that hat might be worth 80 exalts on standard and its exactly what I need for a character I have there. Im playing a long game, Im wearing a self found hat worth at best 1 chaos and i just spent 10 exalts on a hat that will sit in my stash for 4 months until the league ends. When that happens it gets added to a character thats been in the works for 2 years, and now has an 80 exalt hat to add to 100s of exalts worth of gear, and then I can sell the old hat for 10 exalts, thats been replaced by an 80 exalt hat that cost me 10 exalts that I made while wearing a 1 chaos hat in a temp league, because who the hell is playing ci and using 450es accuracy t1 resist hubris circlets in week 3 of a temp league where "ci is dead"? Not me, im playing a crit bow mf character using vendor trash shit items, but Ill buy it because Im not living for today, Im thinking long term, thats why I have 4000 fusing in my stash that will sit there till standard league where Im going to 6 link some serious gear. i feel like if you have 10 hours a day to burn on this game you can get what you want, you just have to be more opportunistic and more open to making things work with utterly shit items in order to reach a longer term goal. A lot of these people with crazy gear on standard, theyre starting every temp league with nothing just like everyone else, hitting maps on day 2 literally in self found gear and theyre finding ways to bleed that stone and get what they want from the league. They dont have dual void batteries, they have literally shit tier items, but give them a month and they will have found a way to drag 2 void batteries worth of wealth out of those shit items, and then some. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

I also have this "wall" problem.
Whenever my exile hits around level 70-80, I stop progressing, because my exile start to lack in every aspect. But I do have two level 90+ exiles and one almost at level 90. Two times I managed to climb the wall by sheer luck. On time by farming for around one year. When my first 90+ exile hit the wall, a generous player gave me a 5-link lightning coil negating both offensive and defensive problems and allowed me to progress further. Using my first exile I farmed the necessary wealth for my second 90+ character. My last exile reached level 83 using its main spell in a 3 link. Then suddenly exalt drops happened and my exile could finally farm maps. I still dont know how to climb over that wall without having luck or using another exile and farm a lika year. But I start to believe that the latter way is the intended way I should go. |
