What do you do when you hit a brick wall?

Now, this ain't specificly aimed at the people who have lots of currency, but to the more common folk that probably never saw an exault and who are not likelly to have more than one or 2 exaults worth of currency when all's put together.

Now before I start. Yes, you don't need 6L items or GG items to have a good build. This is not the point here.

So you start playing the game, you learn it's core mechanics, learn about the market and currency, learn that your first few characters sucked and that just going through the tree blindly does not work. So you make a new character and follow a build which is cheap to build and can get you up to mapping.

And while that is true the build is so horribly boring that make you feel that poking your eyes out with a needle would be at least 10X more fun than what you are doing.

So you start researching builds, trying other builds that are cheap and discover that all are equally as fun as the last one you played.

So you start looking at the expensive builds and you start seeying how fun builds can actually be. You even start looking up uniques, start learning to develop the tree and yeah, you can make really awesome builds, some of them that maybe no one has ever tried yet!

And between you and that build stands only that brick wall called currency which you need for this or that unique which costs a bajillion exaults.

So what do you do at this point? You can grind it, but it's probably going to take several months to get there, all of that with the builds that you just hate. So, what other options are then to have some fun?

You work for it and make an MF char.

Basic concept.

do builds that dont require build enabling uniques, simple as that
Sure, the lab can be hard, but it's pretty easy if you're properly geared, and not terrible at the game.
My advice is to always, always make your own build. Choose a skill you love, try your very best to turn it into an efficient, fun build to play. If it fails, enjoy it for the lessons and knowledge it has given you. Then start again!

I have never, ever copied a build since I joined the game. Not because I see it as a bad thing, but because I personally would get zero sense of achievement using someone else's build.

I have failed many times, but I have also succeeded too. Build options are almost endless in Path of Exile! Just because someone else can clear a map one minute faster than your own build, does not make your build a failure.

I get just as much enjoyment out of theory crafting, as I do playing builds I create.

You also have the added bonus, that you can plan a build to suit your personal budget, when you do it yourself!

I already have a hundred ideas rolling around in my tiny little brain space, of what to try for the one month. No matter what, win or lose, it will be fun :)

Fun builds always require uniques and/or 6L to work. I have made up several builds in my head and I have seen many builds made by others and anything fun always has these pre-requesites.

My problem is not a build having a better or worse clear time. It's how fun it is to play them.

For example I have a level 82 ice crash character. It isn't such a great build because it has neither a good damage nor a good survivabillity. It works well on lower level maps but that's that until I can get a 6L good axe for the damage I need, then respec some points to get the survivabillity. Granted the build is not really that fun and the sound effects for the skill get annoying after a while.

I was doing an incinerate build and ran into a several problems, but the real problem is despite how good incinerate is, it's a very boring skill to use. Now I could make it fun by simply transforming it into a retardedly high damage through some thinkering but it would require lots of currency just for the gear alone.

I have a planned build for a chronomancer which would be immensly fun but again, currency makes it 100% impossible.

Sometimes it isn't even the fact that it needs uniques items but rather that it needs 6Ls. For example, a tri curse rquires 6L to drop ball lightning with GMP, curse on hit and the 3 curses, there is no way around a 6L because casting each one individually is just not worth the trouble... Now getting a 6L, whether it's a good unique or a good rare is going to cost around the same. e are always looking at least for 15+ exaults.

Can you point me to one build, just one, that is both fun and cheap MF build?

Very well said.

If you don't experiment and create your own builds: you are missing out on 99% of what makes this game challenging and fun.

That's what I do all the time, even other people builds I tend to slightly adjust to my liking, the problem still remains that even if it's 100% mine or not, it's not fun unless I get the expensive uniques which usually are 6Ls too but not always.

There is a very tangible line which separates fun builds from all the rest and it always is the items that require lots of currency.

Please do understand. I don't mean that they are better or clear faster or make you immortal. I don't mean they are more or less efficient. I mean fun to play.
