Why is there so much loot ?

Hi there,

So, with the introduction of Warbands, there is now more loot in the game than ever. For people like me who pick up every rare item, it brings some problems :
- The amount of Wisdom Scrolls to identify each one of these items is really huge. I mean, I regularly have to vendor Transmutation Orbs to get more scrolls. While the amount of items to identify increased, the quantity of scrolls dropping has not changed...
- Too much clutter. Even with Item Filters, there is too much stuff on the ground. This happens often, because of the large number of potential loot pinatas : Rogue Exiles, Bosses, Strongboxes, and now Warbands. Setting on the key pickup is almost mandatory or you will find yourselves picking up items instead of moving.
- However the biggest drawback is undoubtedly when you get into maps. It's simple : if you're lucky, 6 portals aren't enough to bring back all the loot you can find. And I'm talking about solo playing here. I don't even imagine what's it's like in a 6-player party. So when that happens, the only way for me not to abandon potential good items on the ground is bringing in several stacks of Wisdom Scrolls, and identify stuff in the map. It means there are items I won't vendor, resulting in a loss of currency gain. And the time taken to identify, vendor and put currency into stash is time not spent killing monsters.

And I'm only talking about rare items. The entire screen can be filled with almost only junk items. Though it's true players can be looking for specific base items to craft on (Maraketh weapons for instance).

Pointing out issues is a thing, now what about possible solutions to this ? I don't like mentioning it, but a long time ago, a change was made to the loot in Diablo 3. Basically, there was an update that reduced the quantity of the loot but increased the quality.
The way PoE's loot is designed probably leaves the developers with few possibilities ("Smart loot" isn't possible because builds and items are not tied to specific classes), but I think the best way to increase the quality of the loot would be to reduce/delete the lowest values of the mods. Or increase the chance to get "good" rolls on desired mods (life and elemental resistances on armour, damage mods on weapons...).

There are probably other ways to reduce the amount of items dropping (currency drops are fine though), but I just wanted to share my opinion on the loot, wishing it will bring some discussion on the subject.

Thanks for reading and taking this into consideration for potential future changes :)

Regards

Use a filter that hides items based on what level you are and what type of items you are looking for. No reason to see white bases that aren't of high value when your level 60.

I'd rather NOT have less items.

Remove MF from POE, make juiced map the new MF.

If the quality of rares get improved? yes, give me less items. Currently I spend almost as much identifying and selling as I play the game.
I've read numerous times the suggestion of high lvl rares being rarer at higher map\zone levels, but having a higher affix pool, making them potentially better all around.

Perhaps a small change in that direction wouldn't hurt. Like if you drop an armour with life in a 77 map it would be at least +70.

Maybe it would kill the joy of finding that awesome rare if all were better though.
useless junk is useless junk. filters are a band-aid fix for a problem that has always existed in this game, too much garbage.
Get rid of white item drops and let players buy white base items from a vendor for crafting if that's what they want to do.
Reduce drop rate for magic and rare by 50% but increase stats on dropped items. so when something drops, it's much more likely to be good. This can be done by slightly raising and narrowing random stat ranges on items.
Bottom cap unique drops so low level unique items aren't dropping in high level areas. Retire some unique items, particularly the ones that no one uses.

Your logic is just terrible.

Not everyone wants the same things, thats why a loot filter allows you do customize what loot you get, not only is it the solution, its the correct one.

White item drops are even limited in drops, as for crafting your going to allow players to buy high ilvel 77+ 84+ from vendors? Its clear you haven't thought thoroughly about this.

They don't need to do anything to the rolls of items, they actually buffed life rolls on most items if you paid any attention.

No unqiues should be retired, even if you don't use any of them they have purposes.

One thing I will mention for everyone here, if you have a problem with itemization now, even after using a loot filter, you are doing something seriously wrong.

Sorry OP, but you have no idea what you are talking about. The loot system is just fine, for things to have a chance to be good you need tons of bad items as well. If only good rarity items drop you get Diablo 3 system where everyone has the same gear and is farming for just that one item that has a bit better stats. Seriously if you think that system is superior... So much base items in PoE can be used for crafting and recipes, that's actually fun, a lot of the things that you think is junk (and for some reason still see with your item filter which just means your filter is not right for you) is actually great for many others. So frustrating to see a complaint from 1 guy in a 100.000 that thinks there is too much loot because he can't setup an item filter to his needs. Really man that's what the item filter is for. Make your own or adjust another but don't come here and complain about the amount of items on the ground.

I agree, there is too much loot. The amount of loot is fine in the "base game", as in the game that was originally made... but with warbands, strongboxes, tormented spirit, exiles... it's madness, pure madness. There are times that I start an area, and literally 1 minute later I pop my first portal to vendor because my inventory is full with rares.

While the system might seem fine initially (after all, who doesn't want more potentially great loot?), the problem is that in the end the time spent identifying, portalling, sorting and vendoring for loot can equal or even grow larger than the time actually spent playing the game. That's where it starts affecting people's fun.

I personally decided to quit hunting for the warband leader challenge today because of this. Running 4 dot maps gives me too much loot, which brings gameplay down to a snail's pace because... I can't really leave those rares on the ground, can I? Then I may as well stop playing.

I stopped reading right there, you clearly don't grasp the concept of an opinion.
I stopped to take rare items a while ago. I identify the ones I could use to updgrade but they end back to the ground mostly. They are always junk. I only take 2 linked tri color items for chrome and currency.
Glowing green mouse cursor plz.
i don't think there is too much loot, we need the alt droped.
