Similar to FF7 skills/spells?

I loved the FF7 skill system. I like the control it gives you to your character, the ability to distinguish yourself from others of the same class. This system looks really similar to that. Also nice to see that you wont be locked into a certain type. Like going down the ice path in D2, find an ice immune mob and you are in for some trouble. Here just swap out the gem which hopefully you've been leveling up as well and switch elements.

I was thinking about materia also. Any ways, the linking system looks great.
Tomorrow comes today.

Yeah I thought that too, great minds think alike. :)
A mind is a terrible thing to waste, and there is much being wasted when one deliberately chooses not to explore the ecstasy of its deeper horizons.

Is there any info about UNsocketing gems? Being that PoE's system is very similar to FF7's, will unsocketing gems be as simple as FF7, or will there be some in-town method to doing so? I imagine there won't be any serious penalty for doing so, such as a chance of the weapon breaking or gems losing experience, etc.

As of TotalBiscuit's preliminary review, skill gems seem to be unsocketable at will.
And yes, I too thought of FF7's materia system when I noticed the gems could level up and such. The major advantage POE seems to have over that is many more socketable items. I don't think GGG will allow replicating them. It'd kinda muck with the random drop system. One idea I had is an option to show or hide the gem sockets on an item. In hindsight it's probably not very useful since I can't seem to think of a reason not to show them... |
