Feedback Request: Tempest League
I feel the prefix buffs would be more impactful if they lasted twice as long but were twice as infrequent. Currently their buff duration feels too short to justify repositioning my character.
Otherwise I'm really liking the league. Good job. Last edited by Alhoon#2008 on Jul 12, 2015, 9:35:02 AM

Lost my first char to Malachai so I have only seen them in normal. I find them only to be impactful if they are around for boss/unique fights. Had the fire buff one in my Daresso fight and really liked it.
Long term they do seem like they will be an nice little extra layer of variety for the map system. They were most interesting in act2 where I had multiple paths to choose from at roughly the same area level. They do make the world map implementation feel a bit goofy, I imagine it would be worse for a new player. I have never liked that every area didn't have its own little circle on the map but it never really mattered before. Now tidal island can have a different tempest than the coast but warehouse and warehouse sewers will always have the same one. I would like to see variation in the behavior of the tempests themselves. Maybe they could move around at different speeds, have variable trigger and effect durations, grow and shrink in size, etc. Not having them all on the challenge list combined with the challenge list not being in alphabetical order has been a bit annoying. I wasted a bunch of time trying to clear the climb of fire golems only to have to have Dan tell me in global chat that it wasn't on the list after I got frustrated and complained. When I kill a man he stays dead. Last edited by mucker#5845 on Jul 12, 2015, 10:05:09 AM

I'm playing 7 characters up through normal difficulty at the same time, so I have a different viewpoint than most.
I choose Tempest because it's the HC league... nothing else. Tempests so far are out of wack for me. There's three aspects that could use change. Frequency of storms is too high. About 2x too high. Duration of the "warning" phase is too long. It's too easy to avoid harmful ones and too boring to wait for ones that benefit you. Again, about 2x here too. Duration of the effects is too short. Again, more waiting. Once you get your effect, you should have it for enough time to use it strategically. I don't know if 2x is even enough here... more like 4x. Specifically: The "transmorgrifying" prefix is hell annoying to a self-found player. cut it. Basically makes me look for something else to do for an hour rather than even enter the area. I don't chat. I don't read chat, and I don't write chat. I don't even want to have people tell me what areas to go to for the next hour. The very idea of letting other players influence my game is abhorrent to me. The only effect I found that was "scary" was the one that gave charges to everyone. That made the encounters very different than I expected. One good thing: They change every hour on the hour. Keep that feature. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Jul 12, 2015, 11:03:53 AM

My 2 cents from the perspective of just normal dif so not much of a feedback :
-Most of the time temepsts are useless groundeffects on wich i can (or I can't ) step on, if anythin i only make sure to get out of the way from bad ones, rarely bother with "good ones" and there are lots of "neutral" that are not worth bothering. On bosses temepst are scary, on somme mob combo sometimes they do get troubleome and deadly. Like with beyond thye may get interesting (both scary and rewarding ) at map level, but while leveling "meeh" -not realy, rather irritaring most of the time -can't tell -can't tell -my chat is 90% times off -Warband seems to be more interesting -am done with tempest leagues; a)I am not happy with tempests at all b)This is first time since open beta playing POE I am done with HC I am bad player but still 2nd part of act 4 is mot funny and not balanced IMO, i don't like Twin stick shooters with all those bullshit attacks going around (add temepsts to that mess ...) making act4 uplayable for some builds especialy early on.. Will just start playing warband and try to learn how to beat act4 without the need to constantly relevel my characters My Item Filter : http://pastebin.com/7AsWX5jb Last edited by Olej#0386 on Jul 12, 2015, 10:22:28 AM

Okay, just finished normal, so I have no lategame experience, but I am not very excited so far. At least not to the point where I'd happily stand around to keep the buff up or try to lure monsters into the tempest. As others have said before, you have to wait too long for too little to happen.
I'd prefer if it was more like "spawn, short delay, something happens while the tempest is active, destroy" instead of "spawn, long delay, destroy, something happens". I can see how tempests become scary in some of act 4s small arenas. Not something I'd like to experience myself, as those fights are already the progression's difficulty peaks. At this point, Warbands strikes me as the more exciting league, although I will still participate in both leagues. |

Well, currently im playing a4 normal, so i may change my mind later, but:
Are the Tempests impactful? it seems they will at highter difficulties, giving buffs to some dangerous monsters and i also used them in chamber of sins, to compensate the lack of damage but right now they arent too impactfull for me Are they scary? first time they appeared strange for me but not scary and now they seem harmless to me if on their own Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding? didnt tried it hard yet Are they better at higher or lower levels? dunno yet Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now? i usually dont read the chat when playing Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands? I play it cos its hardcore league. I just cant play soft in this game :D Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest? Well, at now warbands design seems to be more interesting for me, despite the fact i hadnt tried it. At the end i think tempests feature lacks of some dynamic. The static nature of them is kinda boring and due to that they can be easily ignored. But its just my opinion. Last edited by Bisquit#6854 on Jul 12, 2015, 10:56:57 AM

It's better league than Bloodlines was so far.
" They aren't really impactful. I mainly avoid them harmful or not (rather teach myself to avoid them by reflex than start figuring out when it's harmful or helpful). When picking up the buffs from them, I can hardly tell I have a buff if it wasn't for changed visuals. Some combinations in certain areas are scary. For example, nasty combination of tempests would be ice (puts chilled ground on floor) and something that damages a lot in an area with tight spaces. Those combinations probably are more annoying than scary though. Would like to see more tempests that make the gameplay faster instead of slower (echoing tempest is great and can be really scary on some monsters). Haven't seen many that affect items really. The one I have turns items into shards etc. and it is pretty annoying, I'd rather have items for recipes than shards (which I get anyway soon from vendoring them). Playing Tempest league because it's the hardcore version of current challenge leagues. |

I just imagine the time when a monster dies and drops 2 exalts, 5 regals and a divine.

Are the Tempests impactful?
Needs some fine tuning I'd say. I really don't like having to time the tempest. I would rather see the tempest effect trigger as soon I walk into it. This makes them more useful/scarier. Effectively I'd turn them into drifting shrines with a radius :p Are they scary? Not in early game at least. Based on what others have said, I'd say in boss fights, yes. I don't have a feel yet for how the tempests scale with difficulty (Normal vs. Cruel vs. Merciless). Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding? No, not to the extent a tormented spirit would, for example. Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands? No, played it for HC. Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest? No, I will definitely try it though. |
