Feedback Request: Tempest League

Are the Tempests impactful?
Nah, not really atm.

Are they scary?
If a boss that is already scary is in a "scary" tempest zone too well, is a no go.

Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?
Havent encounter one yet, i'll edit this but i feel it would be a lootcamp zone.

Are they better at higher or lower levels?
Depends on how you feel about better, harder=better? or not?

Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now?
A guy did this http://poetempest.com/ but nobody update it so...

Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands?
No, i wanted to play HC, if you had swapped Warbands over Tempest i where way more interested.

Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest?
I though about that but, well, it's noobcore, no challenge-->no fun.

A changhe i would suggest is to let tempest "drop" like stormcall does and don't disappear every x seconds but when a mob or a player comes in, giving them the buff or the debuff, the elemental ones are fine in this way btw, in that way would be challenging and not random to try to move the mobs towards them or away from them.
A "deterministic" way to waste your time

Not really , my whole gripe is that all the tempests dont feel rewarding just tediously annoying , they should all give an quantity or rarity buff if on map

:)
Please have them not spawn around waypoints entry points. The same way mobs don't spawn around waypoints / entry points anymore.

Also, like with the Invasion mod, there should be exclude lists. Like always crit tempest will have people sit around for an hour to wait until the tempest is gone during progression (think Vaal, Dom, Brutus, ...).

Are the Tempests impactful?
I am currently playing Crit Shockwave Totem build as Scion. I have progressed to late Cruel and so far the Tempest really haven't done much to my progression speed. My performance seems to get the largest impact from Tempest, with every other instance filled with ground effects.

Are they scary?
Not so far. I did notice the Veil Tempest which probably was scariest so far, but I just skipped the content that instance as fast as possible.

Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?
No. I really haven't felt any significant change in drops. I especially hate the trolly Transmogrifying Tempest.

Are they better at higher or lower levels?
The Tempests at Normal seemed completely meaningless. On Cruel it feels like starting very low level maps.

Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now?
I do not know.

Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands?
No, I'm more interested in Warbands, especially now that the new league uniques have been revealed.

Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest?
If you are asking if I had normally played Hardcore league, then yes I usually start with the Hardcore league. I would have played both regardless but at the moment I'm thinking about switching to Warbands because the Tempest challenges seem extremely grindy.

Are the Tempests impactful?
1) The Tempests are impactful in the way that they introduce yet ANOTHER element in a game that is unprepared for it (More on this later)

Are they scary?
2) Tempests are scary and that is all, they are not fun or interactive - They are just scary.

Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?
3) The ones that affect items don't feel rewarding because of the above - They aren't interactive so much as a third party in the already established monsters vs players setup PoE has.

Are they better at higher or lower levels?
4) Personally it's inconsequential whether they are 'better' at any level as they are just clutter and inconvenience that serves to add another 'gotcha' factor and kill you.

Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now?
5) I wouldn't know as I don't leave global on and my guild isn't huge

Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands?
6) I played Tempest because I love the HC Ladder setup, just as I played every other HC league and was thoroughly disappointed (bar Nemesis, I didn't play Beyond - 1/5 leagues where HC was 'more interesting' than SC)

Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest?
7) I swapped to Warbands after a few hours of Tempest as I hated it (even more so than the 'lets kill the player' HC league flavours) but swapped back because I love HC Ladder

Chris the biggest issue with Tempest League along with all the other HC leagues is they are difficult with playability and fun/interaction as an afterthought - Good league design would be coming up with a fun idea and tuning THAT to be difficult.

So far just about every HC league feels like it's been designed by a statistician with the goal of eliminating X figure of players and is haphazardly made 'playable' after the fact.

The reason the SC Leagues are so consistently better is that they feel as if they were designed to be fun and interactive first and foremost and tuned for difficulty after. Does this make sense?

HC leagues should be difficult DESPITE the fun you're having, not fun DESPITE the difficulty.

Every damn HC league so far has been about mitigating the 'bs' moments - People are avoiding tempest zones just like they ran CWDT setups to avoid THE LEAGUE MECHANICS(To me, that's a huge design warning flag). Stop designing leagues for difficulty, start designing them for playability and interactivity and then making them difficult AFTER.

My idea of what Tempest would be was that there would be STATIC areas in each zone, allowing for some variation (and risk) of the existing mechanics in the game. "Oh that pack is on a tempest and has a buff WHILST they are in the tempest, let's bring them over here" maybe you use frost wall or mobility skills or minions, maybe you work together to KITE. However the way the Tempests are designed currently just does NOT work with the way PoE plays - If you want to move TO a tempest to get the buff you have to stop attacking (and lose DPS) and rush to it hopefully in time to get it without the enemy getting it. If you want to avoid a negative tempest bad luck most of the time - Because GGG designs leagues to kill you first and foremost with seemingly little regard to interactivity and playability.

Finally a design note - The Tempests give insanely little feedback. Are they positive or negative effects? Green or Red tempests would be intuitive and interactive to the player which is something that would be taken into account if the current focus of the HC leagues weren't just to 'kill players'. The Tempests don't indicate how long until they proc. Hell they even proc for mobs OUTSIDE the indicator. Who REALLY wants to enter a zone, view the map, read the tempest, look up/recall the nature of the tempest and THEN PLAY.

It's clunky at best. Honestly I think it's a great and fun idea (if you read above at how I thought it'd be implemented) but poorly executed, especially for this type of game.

TL;DR: Please stop making leagues that are difficult AT THE EXPENSE OF fun, playability and interactivity. We know in our hearts that you can achieve both!

Much love,
Drakargh

Are the Tempests impactful?
Most aren't.

Are they scary?
Most aren't.

Yes.

Didn't notice anything special until merciless, feels incredibly boring in normal and even cruel when you keep running into the same tempests.

Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now?
I've been in global chat for this but nobody is sharing anything with anyone regarding this. It doesn't help that it's mostly groups of elite players at the top of the ladder now running higher maps, maybe it'll change in a week or two.

Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands?
I played Tempest because it was hardcore and I can't play softcore.

Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest?
I would have played warbands if it was also hardcore although I have no experience playing warbands so I don't know if it'd be better.
Beyond league.
Veiling could be scary.

Some I think that could be added are

Increased or reduced xp (ouch)
Some kinda version of beyond ie crazy mobs spawning
Divination tempest
Reverse knock back tempest
Phase run tempest

Generally a little underwhelmed at the moment; needs to have more impact on the game possibly. Removing tempests from cruel malachai I think goes against what is a good mechanic; it seemed good for racing. Possibly having to farm particular areas due to tempest increases variety of play. Possibly showing tempests before going into the area is giving the player too much information. This would also make knowledge of areas more valuable when shared communally and could allow for an increase in these so called areas that give lots of loot!

Plus loot filtering alteration and scroll fragments cus it was funny the first time..

-Hardly any impact, notables:
Regen -> avoid bosses
Fire elemental -> Fight bosses (usually alot of totems/golems so the bosses get distraced)
Auto Vendor -> avoid farming, no loot/screen clusterfuck (had the unique strongbox with 3 exiles, screen was so full of alteration shards that it was difficult to pick them all up)

"Scary"
- 100% crit helps both ends so 50/50
- Haste, only one I almost died to

Doesn't feel rewarding at all, just annyoing
It would be bette if the tempest would affect the whole area not just spawning in cirles.

Unless you want to kill Malachi, no.

I play tempest because it's the hardcore league.

I did not play warband yet, but I plan to do so in the future.
I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. In large areas I don't spend much time waiting around for the buffs, however I notice the tempests work much better in enclosed areas. So far all the dungeon or cave areas have been quite fun with tempests. I like the synergy between it and some of the other previous game mods in the game. For instance I died yesterday while bolting towards a shrine that was close to a tempest; I forgot which shrine it was, but it was near a crit tempest...all the mods got the buff and quickly killed me. So playing greedy in an enclosed area can definitely be dangerous.

I haven't tried Warbands but I feel like previously GGG would have made it the HC league, people would complain about the mobs being overtuned and not dropping good loot, and then they'd be nerfed. In many ways it reminds me of a various of other HC leagues that had a similar cycle. Testing it out on SC seems like a good design decision to me.
