Feedback Request: Tempest League

Sadly I don't enjoy tempest one bit. I think it's one of the least enjoyable leagues so far. While I think the concept of tempest is good, actually playing it is not fun for me. The main problem is that after a while you just ignore tempests completely unless they spawn directly on top of you (in which case you might wait for buff or avoid it). The duration of the buff (those ~8 seconds) is simply not worth the trouble of running to the tempest and waiting there for the buff.

I also dislike shocking / freezing ground on maps in addition to the tempest circles. There is no reason for that and they just make zones more annoying to clear. It is not a fun way to add difficulty or challenge. Sometimes the monsters also get passive damage bonuses with a passive zone mod. Again, I don't get the reason for that? Just have all the bonuses and effects contained within the tempest circles. Leave passive zone mods for the actual maps and don't mix them with tempest.

I would much rather see tempest circles spawn at half the current rate and make the buffs last like 30-60 seconds. In that case I would actually bother to pick up the buffs.

Some of them are. And they have bigger impact on higher difficulty.

Again some are. Ice / lighting ones can get be tricky if you get caught in them at the wrong moment.

Not really. Mostly because of the very short buff duration.

To me they are equally bad. Basically the time it takes to stand in tempest waiting to the buff is not worth the effort for those ~8 seconds of buff.

I only play it because it's hardcore. I would switch in a heartbeat if Warbands was heroic.

I'm thinking about it.

Tempests are impactful for the monsters, making them way more scarier than they should be. I made a suggestion before the leagues to incentivise players to play into hard tempests by adding quantity on the map like a mapmod.

Without that I see no point in playing the league. Increased difficulty should provide increased quantity like with maps.

If Tempest league included IIQ I think more people would play it.
I find the idea really neat but I hate the execution. I switched to warbands because I felt like it was slowing down the game too much. Having to stand and wait for such a short duration buff gets very tedious. This will be my first time really playing SC over HC as I'm a HC player. But I just felt like the tempests really detracted from my enjoyment of the game. Some of the tempests are awesome, but other ones if I had to just wait for them to end so I could pass, or wait for 5 seconds so I could get a 10 second negligible impact buff just really bogged down the experience.

I think if the tempests moved around it would help a lot or if they were trimmed down to be less of them but much more impactful.

Good concept, not digging the execution. I ignore the tempests 99% of the times. It's not worth standing there for 5 fkn seconds when the buff only lasts TEN secs. I just play the game pretending tempests don't even exist. Some kind of change should be made imo. Perhaps.... longer buff? I dunno.

Are the Tempests impactful?

Most of them, yes. I'm not sure I like some of them are much more impactful on certain character builds than others (like those elemental ones work best on physical character). Also, having to wait for tempest to explode and really low duration sometimes makes me skip even those greatly beneficial to me (like echoing or always crit ones). Would love to see them explode as soon as player (and perhaps rare/unique mob) enters them and/or duration increased.

Are they scary?

Some of them, yes. I ripped yesterday in Cruel Lunaris due to shocking ground + blue tentacle miscreation pack affected by some tempest.

Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?

The only one I found was one making items drop as shards, which was really annoying to pick up all those shards 1 by 1 (I think I'll avoid that one for now) and animating one, which was not rewarding at all.

Higher. Lower level ones with no 2nd affix are kinda boring.

Do people share information about what Tempests are running right now?

Sometimes people share info about good tempest effects in maps (like +50% XP one) on /global 820

Nope. I usually start with Hardcore League then I switch to SC.

Nope, Warbands seemed more exciting to me (at least on paper, haven't played it yet) actually, especially with those exclusive item mods and more league-only uniques.

Are the Tempests impactful?
-Sometimes - but having to sit in a fog tempest for 5+seconds for only to get a very small window just takes too much time for it to be worth it.

Are they scary?
-Later in higher levels so far they can but but for the most part nothing to scary atm

Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?
-The buff lasts to short for me to actively want to gather them for this

Are they better at higher or lower levels?
-Higher

-No

Did you play Tempest because you thought it was more interesting than Warbands?
-Only playing it for the hardcore league!

Did you play Warbands when you normally would have played Tempest?
-Hardcore league all the way
Haven't read through the thread but there needs to be a better visual indicator as to when the tempests pop, it would allow us to play around them better.

Some of the buffs are also hard to see on mobs especially since tempests can pop offscrean. The one that comes to mind is the "all damage you deal is chaos damage" was a sort of purple tint but with all the spell effects going off it was sometimes difficult to tell.
My experience with tempest on normal is pretty underwhelming. Most of the time they feel useless, take to long to activate to be worth standing in them. Died once to daresso standing in frost damage buff tempest and then teleporting to me and performing his combo frost attack on me, so probably those should be removed from boss zones at all, couz there is nothing you can do if tempest spawns below boss and boss is standing in 1 spot as part of his animation.

On cruel map mods seem unrewarding at all, but I haven't played after the latest patch.

Also, I would imagine frozen ground map mod is annoying as hell for melees. When I was playing melees in high level maps i would always reroll frozen ground because it just annoying, it doesn't increase difficulty just makes you frustrated. At least you can reroll that mod on a map, but you can't do anything about it while you quest.
- Are the Tempests impactful?

Not much, maybe if they are present in the difficult boss rooms.

- Are they scary?

No. So far just ignoring most of the negative ones.

- Do the ones that affect items feel rewarding?

Rare to find one so far, and didn't yield anything

- Are they better at higher or lower levels?

As going higher so far, I can just ignore them more as the char is stronger
