[3.1] RAIDER Tanky Crit Reave/Blade Flurry Dagger/Claw AR+EV+Block NO MIRRORED GEAR

Please, if you have any questions, DO NOT SEND ME PRIVATE MESSAGES, but post your question here in the thread!

Introduction

Hi everyone!

The point of this build is to have fun with a high DPS crit build, while being as tanky as possible at the same time. If you like crit builds or daggers or high clear speed or using reave while also having a high evasion chance, plus a decent armour to mitigate those hits that do pass through, plus a medium but noticeable block chance, this build is for you :)

The way this is achieved is by using Lioneye's Remorse as a shield, which gives around 1.4k armour and up to 100 life. Because we take several shield nodes, this 1.4k armour becomes 4.2k since we get 200%+ increased defenses from shield. Get a hybrid ev/ar chest, and this goes a bit higher. Pop a granite flask, and you can take and physical hit (except map bosses' 1-shot phys hits ofc).

But guess what? You'll rarely get hit anyway cause you have 15k evasion rating, which easily becomes 30k+ with a good evasion flask. All your other gear is evasion based, which is why you can get such high evasion easily. To top all that, you have 40% block chance, which becomes 60% + 15% spell block if you use Rumi's Concoction.

Meanwhile, with a decent 280+ DPS dagger, you can get 80k+ DPS in a 5-link setup.

DISCLAIMER: This build was inspired by Oosband's outdated build which I enjoyed playing in previous leagues, as well as with a similar build Pohx did on his stream (no link, sry).

Gear

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: The gear section is for showing gear, if you're interested how to set up your gem links, look at the Skill Gems section. Literally every gem slot is there.

Chest
Best choice:

It gives nice evasion, decent life and best of all - 30% spell dodge chance. If you can get this, use it.

Other options:

Belly gives a nice boost to life.

A good rare chest can give a lot of extra armour/evasion + resistances, making gearing on other gear slots easier.

Shield
Again, absolute best choice is:

Gaining 250 life each time you block is a HUGE survivability boost. Also gives very nice armour thanks to the "increased defences from shield" nodes in the passive tree. (You will get around 4-6k armour only from the shield and the nodes.)

Alternative:

Weapon
Best choice:
A rare dagger/claw with over 260 DPS and that looks something like this:

If it does not have increased crit chance, it's not worth using.

For daggers, a cheap but decent item is Bino's:

A decent dagger with very high crit chance, but low attack speed. If you can afford a rare dagger like the one above, it's better than Bino's. Bino's is cheaper, though (currently around 10 chaos in Breach).

Rings
Best in slot would be steel rings with crit and added phys or diamond rings with added phys. Of course, look for life and resists wherever you can.

Jewels
Use mostly rare jewels like these:

So, the mods you're looking for are:
1) increased maximum life
2) increased physical damage with claws / daggers
3) increased physical damage with one handed melee weapons
4) increased melee damage
5) increased damage
6) increased crit multiplier
7) increased attack speed
8) increased attack speed with claws / daggers

Also, use 1 or 2 of these:

They will get your spell block, with a Rumi's concoction and Tempest Shield up, to around 35-40% (more if you have legacy Rumi's concoction on Standard).

Other gear slots
Just use whatever is best for you, which is mostly rare items with life, resists, crit chance/multiplier (on jewellery), attack speed, flat physical damage.

Good uniques which you can also consider, IF you can fit them in because of resistance or lack of life:

Also Snakebite. And ofc Atziri's Acuity, if you can afford them, but that's obvious.

Ascendancy Class Specialisation

We go for Raider, which is a SUPERB ascendancy class for this build: http://www.pathofexile.com/ascendancy/classes/Raider
Now with a total of 8 Ascendancy points, it's a very hard choice, but you have the following options:
Avatar of the Slaughter + Avatar of the Chase for pure DPS
OR
Avatar of the Slaughter + Avatar of the Veil for DPS + survivability

Passive tree

For both versions of the build, you can take Vaal Pact if you want to, since it's 2 points away.

For daggers:

For claws:

FAQ

Q: What's better, the claw version or the dagger version of the build?
A: Claws have superior leech both on the tree and as implicit mods on the items, and allow you to take more life nodes as the huge claw cluster is closer than the dagger one is, so we have more passive points to spend elsewhere. However, with daggers, you can use Bino's, which is a super-effective and very cheap to get unique, so it makes the dagger version quite cheaper than the claw one, as good claws are rather expensive.

Leveling guide

Simply start using Reave OR Blade Flurry as soon as possible.

For the passive tree: go left to the Duelist area first, then go up to Shadow area.

Since the Awakening patch, there are nice unique leveling daggers/claws, which can be bought for 1 alch:

Interesting build, but the few things I see that could be improved on.

You route right past one of the better shield clusters, Command of Steel which would give you 4% block and 110% shield defense.

You also have no jewel slots and even more importantly miss all the frenzy charge points as well with each charge now giving 4% MORE damage they are well worth getting.

I would also try fit fortify in there some where as that's a 20% damage reduction.

I do take 1 frenzy charge, to the right of ranger, you missed that :)

The shield nodes are nice, I agree, but the build is short on passive points as it is... you could potentially get rid of some DPS nodes, since life is not an option.

You're absolutely right about fortify, I completely forgot. I'll link that to Whirling Blades.

Hey,
this is a cool build, i am looking for something similar for the upcoming HC League. What do u think, is this build viable in HC ?
What would you change to make it definitely hc viable ?
Why do you use Blood magic linked to Whyrling blades?

Use belly of the beast instead of a rare chest, and myb add fortify to reave gem links. That would make it definitely HC viable.

So you don't spend mana for your movement skill. If you have to get out of a near-death situation and your mana is spent, you're screwed :)

Hey I love your build! I will most likely try something similar.

Couple questions:

Any reason to go daggers over claws? Are you able to leech back enough life or do you rely more on potions?

How are you running grace and hatred in 2.0?

Thanks!

No special reason, only because of higher overall crit chance, but you can definitely go claws, it is more than viable. Claws should be better for overall survivability because of the claw implicits and all the claw leech nodes.

No grace and hatred in 2.0. - you chose either one or the other and run herald of ash, plus tempest shield, since it's a buff now.
