RIPPING OFF NOT =SCAM; THAT DOES NOT MAKE IT MORALLY RIGHT
" You confuse terms. Ethics is what u mean. Morals are individual precepts. One can be perfectly ethical and worship the devil. Git R Dun!

" Let's not get into a discussion about terminology, but let's just agree that "morals" and "ethics" comes from the same philosophy, and are closely related. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

"Hey, buyer beware, dude!"
"Hey, seller beware, dude!" I bought a 245% Shavronne's a week or two ago for 70 Ex. No, I don't feel bad. If someone under prices an item or offers too much then that's their own fault. Chances are it was a player who'd just returned to the game and didn't realize it was legacy nowadays. Clearly they didn't pay 200 Ex for it, it's not like I took currency they earned. They weren't playing, they came back and were too lazy to do proper research of a very expensive item. I don't really agree with trying to convince someone the item is worth more/less when you clearly know that it isn't, but then at the same time people need to learn not to believe everything they read on the Internet. Basically offering low or pricing high is fine my opinion, you're giving a value and it's up to them to do their research. I don't personally indulge in the act of convincing people items are worth more or less however I wouldn't like to see that punished either. People who spam dreadful ratios all day are irritating though. Sorry but 1:1 regret to chaos is BS and you know it. There's trying to make a profit and then there's trying to make double. If I realize that someone is really new I'll tend to tell them they're paying too much though. For example someone offered 4 regrets, 2 chaos and a GCP for an item I'd meant to price at two chaos, given the weird spread of currency it was clearly a "I'll throw an offer of everything I have and hope it's okay" type deal. I told him it's real value. Last edited by infinityi#4233 on May 16, 2015, 1:01:28 PM

" My morals are the product of the choices I make and I guess society can be one of those contributing factors, but that doesn't mean everyone's moral values in a society are the same IGN:WitchSummonerz Last edited by fid1#1644 on May 16, 2015, 1:07:39 PM

" No, your choices are a product of your morals. Of course everyone don't have the same set of morals, But the society around you guide you from your are born about what's "right" and "wrong". YOU, of course, create your own moral rule set, but often not far from "the tree". So "fail" becomes wrong. OT: But never mind, some clowns will argue that it isn't morally wrong to fool someone by intent, for your own gain - and their loss. It's far from illegal (in this game), and by all means - go ahead. But don't hide behind "my personal morals says it's OK. I do it all the time in real life". Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" I think it's a matter of intention when you're trying to make the deal. Contacting someone in order to manipulate his prices is clearly intended to rip him off, and is morally wrong (and illegal in many countries). Buying something at less than half price is a lot more ambiguous, but your intent, as you have shown it, tips on the wrong side of the balance. The prices, however, do make me feel that you could have the same trade on the good side of the balance : 70 ex is already a lot, and would probably be more useful on short term to that guy than a shavronne's he doesn't intend to use, assuming you're not in a reasonable position to offer him more than 70. I've got a very good example of a dishonest offer : I put a message on the global chat asking whether I should use or attempt to sell an Atziri's Vaults map I had. I had bought this map 10 chaos from a Master NPC after seeing it was at 1 exalt at the lowest on the usual trade website. I immediately had two private messages asking me how much I would like to trade it. I considered that 1 exalt was a reasonable start for the negotiations, and made that offer. Both made it clear that they considered 10 chaos to be around the right price, so I broke the negotiations and used the map. Needless to say, the sheer amount of Vaal Vessels was worth more than 10 chaos, without any danger for the character, and without taking any other loot into account. These guys weren't trying to get a good deal, they were trying to rip off what they thought was a complete noob. |
