Update on Deterministic Lockstep

Is there any news on where the new servers are going to be located?

This makes me curious - what does diablo 3 use?

when I think about D3, I remember that desync is rare - but lag definatly alters game play, like when latency is around 220+ then skills like Vault become extremely unreliable, or monsters often dont render till you turn a corner and are actually in the same room, so when latency is bad, you can be attacked by mobs that arent even on the screen yet.

that kinda sounds like lockstep.
just wondering - cause I think alot of us are familiar with D3, and want some idea what it feels like, cause this update is still a long way away.

I'm pretty sure D3 doesn't use lockstep, but it simplifies game mechanics (no stun, no hit chance, etc.), uses wide open areas with almost no obstacles, and have huge clipping (it hides monsters client-side even if you're in the same room but you got like a pillar between you and them). I'm also pretty sure D3 trusts your client side a bit more than PoE does, because beside your bare inputs everything is happening server side in PoE.

It's going to feel like a new game :-)

When are you gonna add servers to south america?
Latency here doesn't get better than 170 ms.
Oh boy... This is a major milestone in the history of PoE. A whole new and different game is coming.

You had me at "The Awakening"... and I cried tears of joy.

Great work guys (and specifically Jonathan). Look forward to finally re-rolling into melee. <3
