What caused the cataclysm?

I re-read the lore of PoE and there is one thing I don't understand, what caused the cataclysm?

I think act 4 has more hints about this, but not sure. I haven't read the fourth comic. It might say something too.
Because Doryani overdid it with party confetti.
However, Atziri obviously managed to ALT+F4 in time.
There are several clues, but we don't know for sure.

The 'Twist'

Lady Dialla

The 'Beast'

All we know is that people started getting corrupted, and then, Cataclysm.

As for the smoking gun, well, we haven't found it yet.
I need more purple titles
Quantity gems caused it.
There comes a time thief when jewels cease to sparkle, gold loses it's luster, throne room becomes a prison, and all that's left is a father's love for his child. - King Osric

My vote the same as ive always voted...

In the Vaal Ruins just before Oak's area, once you have broken the seal it reveals a molusk/snail/squid like thing which is also adorned on the doors to the sceptre of god.

Why is it that when Piety and Dominus are slain (in human form) they are pulled into a blood portal yet no other mob or character has this happen.

I see a lot more questions than answers as per usual and cant wait to find some answers and inevitably more questions :D

Existence is infinite, a weave of live and dead, beyond the understanding of the many mortal threads.
Embrace death to honour the lost, no fear in life no matter the cost. With one of all we are and all of one we trust, throughout past, present and future...... be just.
Hmm, very interesting. This leads me to 2 things. The beast could be located in Doryani's cradle and is an accident that was born from too many virtue gems being thrown into one spot (some sort of crystal monster) he could have caused the cataclysm but that seems slightly unlikely due to how "weak" he is portrayed to be. What is more likely is that there is something even stronger than him or anything else in Wreaclast, some kind of higher being like that squid creature that Heup mentioned (Cthulhu maybe? xD) I speculate that he MAY be the true final boss in the final act, act 5.
Deadly farts
A cat. Duh.
