Thanks to the graphical update in Act 4, my Diablo 3 friends are switching over to POE

I know OP, I only play games because of the graphics. I mean, we all know that graphics are what make gaming great.
Max Payne FTW !!! Supreme game. Playing it during a cold winter night. In 2001 these graphics were unseen!

If you can look past them, the game is still amazingly fun.

A better comparison would be the with rpg NWN, which was launched in 2002. Behold those graphics!

Spoiler

I bet this game would be considered superboring by the current generation.

I can´t hear that anymore. Most people posting their opinions are way over 20-30-40 years. It´s just a fast way to vilify someones opinion. Just stop.

Yup Blizzard is sacred to many, or atleast has been, they aren't the same anymore.

Still D3 came at a time when most people thought the game would be great. Even the proffesional reviwers gave it great reviews.
So no wonder D3 sold well, but Reaper of Souls didn't sell that great in comparison. Even though I think RoS did fix some issues.

Now in retospect i think most agree that vanilla Diablo was a flopp. Maybe not financially, but its a stain in Blizzards reputation and i bet many will hesitate to buy the next Diablo game.
It certainly wont be rememberd as a great ARPG the same way D2 was.

Too be honest it should have been obvious to many that D3 would be like WoW. Ever since Blizzard introduced WoW it was more and more obvious that they have abandoned Mature Rated games.

Ok look at WWE today, remember attitude era? and then we have PG era today because most of the customers are women and children? Remember how Undertaker matches used to be 17 years ago? you don't see this anymore.

Its really a business decision, Blizzard don't have a choice in the matter if they want to continue to earn money.

Blizz has not all abandoned great games, Starcraft 2 is pretty much Starcraft 1 with better graphics and continued story sure its a little easier like assigning workers to mine crystals etc and then returning to building the base without the need to click on them when they are done mining and assign them to base building.

This is not a con in my book and not a con in that of anyone else. Starcraft 2 is still the most hardcore RTS available to this day. Part of this funding was from Diablo 3 and WoW. You have to be joking if you think Starcraft 2 is a best seller, its nothing compared to the likes of call of duty when it comes to earning money. If not for screwing atleast one of their fan base then they would not be able to justify making starcraft 2, SC2 is a loss on Blizzard's part.

Firing Jay Wilson was the best thing they ever did.

The problem with the community is people are still classing Diablo 3 as the D2 successor when in reality D3 was never designed like this it was a console casual game for all ages. It was designed for Blizzard's bulk fan base.

I suspect they have to screw some other fan base to fund Warcraft 4.

There is a reason we have not seen a WC4 as yet, from a business perspective its pointless in this day and age especially to run the servers for over a decade.

Activision would never go for a Warcraft 4 unless Mike manages to screw a player base in earning billions.

Unless Blizzard finds a way to make a game that sells billions, we may never see Warcraft 4. Cause Activision would use every opportunity to build a case against it.

Is only when Call of Duty dies we may see Blizzard and Activision making better games.

Think about it, what the hell does Robert Kotick know about playing video games? and he is the CEO and President of Activision Blizzard which is actually the holding company for both Blizzard and Activision. Mike Morhaime has less say than Kotick.

Do you really think Morhaime could have just went along and make a mature rated game like POE? No way would that just slide and everyone be normal about it. Because the first issue Kotick would have raised is the money they funded Starcraft 2 and the little they got in return for it.

And its not like Morhaime could say well COD makes little money.

^ The way you see the industry is fascinating. There will be a new warcraft, there will be a new call of duty. And, surprise! There will even be a Diablo 4.

They're called cash cows.

Dude, i'm sure the shareholders would prefer they hire a hardcore gamer with no business background to run a multi billion dollar company.

They didn't fire Jay Wilson. He resigned and moved on to another Blizzard project.

To be clear. Im in PoE's camp. I prefer it to D3. But all these comparisons really make us come off as insecure. No but but its the TRUE D2. Fuck up. We get it, you didn't like D3. Its still D3. The sequel to Diablo 2. You can argue it until you're blue in the face, its fact.

Poe is its own thing.

Also, I think it's kinda funny when you read this D3 wiki ... It's filled with ads about PoE.
