I am ranked #87 In the world. But how are Standard League Ladder Ranked?

There already is such competition beyond 100 anyways - how MANY level 100s do you have? Several people have three now, not sure if anybody has 4 or more yet.

I really don't care how many level 100's some one has lol. Now if they raise the cap, then lets continue this race. I busted my ass, called in sick to work, stood up late, to finish that last grind from 99-100. What makes you think I'm in a rush to do that again? lol

Why not? If they don't want to, they don't do it.

For the same reason they allow hardcore characters to go to standard. For the same reason they allow temporary charactes and stashes go to permanent leagues: they want to incentivize players in such way that temporary leagues become the most competitive. Allowing people to go beyond just reaching lv100, would undermine this ambition.

They want the temp leagues to be the most competitive? Thats pretty fail.

The point of these games is to take your time. Plan your character. Make your character the best it can be. Make Friends. Get all Best in Slot Items. Get to the level cap. And how is this possible if you keep making a new character in a new league?

I think if anything, the leagues are put there to DISTRACT people from wanting to hit the level cap. They know they are going to have to raise it at some point, but they keep hiding behind the "omg just wait until Act 4" bS.

You really think act 4 is going to be that game breaking? or is it just going to be another zone u have to drag yourself to do over and over again in normal cruel and merciless? Or is it actually going to have some benefits for End Game Mappers. Because if we have been waiting all this time, and it does nothing for End-Game Players, then I think people are going to start calling for the Cap to be Raised

Obviously these numbers got you to come out of your hole.

The reason the ladder is there is for competition. If these numbers really didn't mean anything, why would they even bother ranking people.

Act 4 isnt gonna be much of anything, it's not gonna change anything, game is still gonna be killing stuff, picking up loot and getting XP whether you do it in Act 3 or Act 4, makes no difference. Hopefully there will be more fun new areas and less Act-3 everything-is-an-annoying-maze areas.

I, for one, hope they don't raise the cap. Hitting 100 now is something special, game's been live all this time, and still not many people who have done it. Raise the cap, all you've done was for nothing. You hit the next cap, they raise it again. And again. And once more. Why be played like that?

I'd just uninstall if the cap gets raised.

(Since this is as good a thread as any) I still would like to see the level 100 cap removed and for the exp formulae to get even more sharply exponential.

That way people could get L101, but it would take 3x the time it took 1-100, and 102 is even farther away than that. The benefit of 1-2 extra skill points seems fairly meaningless, esp. if people have to put in 10k hours for it.

It would let the ladder stay competitive indefinitely, and for those people crazy enough to play one character for that long, at least something to strive for (even if it becomes intractable).

^^ This. It doesn't change anything in temp leagues, but allow people in Standard to do some stuff. More things to do = better. Even if they are crazy as hell. :D

There is no need to cap level at all - exp needed is a natural cap. For me, level is pretty much "capped" at about lvl 95, because I will never get enough exp to get any higher. There is no point in having a lvl 100 cap, if going from 100 to 101 would take as much exp as going from say 90 to 100.
Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance.
Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge.

I believe they're sorted by some kind of unique id/hash of character data.
Effectively, characters of equal experience are unsorted (definitely not time based in any regard: neither character creation date, minimum time /played, earliest L100 first, none of that).

What I wish GGG'd do is just let the experience counter keep rolling up, even if there's never a L101+. It would be nice to have a little pseudo-competition among the hundreders, if only for e-peen purposes.

I agree with this, especially for the temp leagues. You should be able to keep Gaining experience after 100... There's going to be multiple 100s in bloodlines, you should be able to keep competing for the number 1 spot.

I'm not saying I want the level cap raised... Just that you should be able to keep gaining exp after hitting level 100. Your exp bar would still stay full, but your total exp number would just keep increasing. If I'm not mistaken, this is how d2 worked after Lod came out, and it was great for the HC ladder competition. Otherwise people would just get 100 on their hardcore character, and then just never play him again, thereby not risking death.

To me, and many other end-game mappers, Standard is the Real Game.

The Temp Leagues are simply beta testing ideas before incorporating them into the main game.
