I am ranked #87 In the world. But how are Standard League Ladder Ranked?

(Since this is as good a thread as any) I still would like to see the level 100 cap removed and for the exp formulae to get even more sharply exponential.

That way people could get L101, but it would take 3x the time it took 1-100, and 102 is even farther away than that. The benefit of 1-2 extra skill points seems fairly meaningless, esp. if people have to put in 10k hours for it.

It would let the ladder stay competitive indefinitely, and for those people crazy enough to play one character for that long, at least something to strive for (even if it becomes intractable).

Why not? If they don't want to, they don't do it.

For the same reason they allow hardcore characters to go to standard. For the same reason they allow temporary charactes and stashes go to permanent leagues: they want to incentivize players in such way that temporary leagues become the most competitive. Allowing people to go beyond just reaching lv100, would undermine this ambition.

Hey guys,

Just had a question. As I was making my way up to level 100, I was checking the ladder. Apparently there is only 130 level 100's in the game.

I hit level 100 a few months ago, and I am now ranked #87 in the world.

Feel bad for those who hit 100 before me, cause I jumped over them, But dam! I'M RANKED 87 IN THE WORLD:)

Some reasons for this could be:
-This is my only character, on or off the ladder. Maybe same accounts with more then 1 level 100 are weighted differently.
-This character is about 2 years old. Wasn't until last year that I decided to pick it up again to treck to level 100. Maybe my character AGE is older then those ranked 88-130? So it might be in age order?
-I see everyone has the same XP, the required XP for level 100. But maybe it is ranked on the OVER XP? Like maybe I killed a boss to hit level 100. I only needed 50 more xp, but the boss gave me 500. So maybe without showing it, i really am 450 xp OVER lvl 100. But at level 100, you don't gain any more xp.

No idea, but the 'overkill' XP idea sounds logical, at least :p
Pretty sure it has to do with the amount of in-game-time since the character was created.

I remember reading something about it a while back.

The person that took the least amount of time to reach 100 gets ranked first.

These numbers don't mean anything to anyone but you.

I believe they're sorted by some kind of unique id/hash of character data.
Effectively, characters of equal experience are unsorted (definitely not time based in any regard: neither character creation date, minimum time /played, earliest L100 first, none of that).

What I wish GGG'd do is just let the experience counter keep rolling up, even if there's never a L101+. It would be nice to have a little pseudo-competition among the hundreders, if only for e-peen purposes.

I like this idea so long as deaths still subtract 10% of XP.

In Diablo2 Ladder-Seasons the last one who hits maxlevel was/is listed first in the Ladder,
so the "old" ones go down.

I think it works similar here.

In Diablo 2 you could gain a full level worth of XP again after hitting 99, on the ladder of 99's there were always some maxed out, and the bottom ones had less xp at random amounts. Unless they changed something since I quit playing.

Motivating the most hardcore of their player base to keep playing is "encouraging bad behavior"? Huh?

Those "most hardcore" players are already playing in temporary leagues. Encouraging to keep competing in permanent leagues beyond reaching lv100 is not something GGG should do.

Nah... The temp leagues don't do anything for me. Why throw away my character to start a new one. Just to take advantage of the economy? No thanks, I spent a lot of time leveling up my main to 100, I think I am going to stay and enjoy it, instead of running to make a new character.

To me, and many other end-game mappers, Standard is the Real Game.

The Temp Leagues are simply beta testing ideas before incorporating them into the main game.

My views on the temp leagues will change if they allow you to bring your characters into the leagues. But until then, no thanks.
