Rain and Load Times
" this. I 'solved' it with switching from a Phenom II X4 to I5-4xxx (with appropriate mainboard). Rest of the system is still the same, including a Radeon 7850 with 1GB Ram "only". From the nature of the change, I had to reinstall the OS (W7/64). System and POE are stored on (the same) SSD before and after. futher explaining: maybe its not what you (Chris) mean with 'loading time'; what I faced before my upgrade even in mate's hideouts (Tora's and/or additional rain effects) is that it had needed around 20-30 seconds to switch from loading screen to the actual picture, while the sound became present significant time earlier. The fps drop from the quote was happening here as a wild shutter between 60 and <10 fps, and mostly/often needed up to (guessed) 2 minutes to go away - what I expected to be related to some kind of 'further' preloading in the background. Add:(had not read the whole thread when responding first) " seems like this covers my findings too. maybe it helps. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011 -- deutsche Community: www.exiled.eu & ts.exiled.eu Last edited by Mr_Cee#0334 on Jan 28, 2015, 3:51:02 AM

I'm glad you are looking at ways to releive the rain graphic lag. Hint.. An on\off option in graphic settings screen would do the trick.
Anyway it doesn't bother me at all because I havent actually played poe for a few weeks now. Might be back to try 1.4 but otherwise "meh" can't be bothered. Those extra 10 hours a day are really good for getting real things done. |

Loading areas with rain takes much longer, that is true also for me.
IDK how you devs tested that. Maybe it is also about RAM, we have 4GB RAM on our computers, probably that is not enough. And maybe if the rain is already loaded into RAM, then it go fast load for new instance. But if i play elsewhere, and come to a new rainy instance, it loads forever. It is especially observable when i am racing and i enter to Crossroads, it takes some serious time to load it. No joke. But you GGG's are quite stubborn on keeping that rain despite almost everybody wishing for option to turn it off. Proud Crusader of Hardcore Leagues.

Russians already tried to disable rain on some occasions and parades so i guess people will always blame on rain for something bad :)

I have no problems with the effects at all. Actually I love them, I play PoE on the highest settings possible and the game doesnt lag, neither is slow in heavy effect areas. It looks very very nice and cool and I love it.
Every map or new locations are loading normally and fast enough within 2 seconds. People should learn to not play on toasters in modern days of the year 2015 and start finally using SSD's. The biggest joke for me is when I see someone with a few hundreds of dollars worth supporter pack complaining about how slow the game is and how long are the loadings when entering a new location with weather effect on. Supporters playing on toasters, please set your priorities right and those who doesnt supported the game stop complaing at all. It is for free, you have no right to demand anything. Take it as it is. You also dont complain to Blizzard to turn the effects off in D3 because you have a slow computer. Neither UBI to tune down Watch Dogs for example. Let me tell you a secret : it is your computer not the game's fault ! My current specs :
Spoiler
SYSTEM : Win 8.1 64bit Processor : i5-4690K Motherboard : ASUS Z97M-PLUS HDD : SSD Samsung 840 EVO RAM : Kingston 16GB KIT DDR3 1866MHz CL10 HyperX Fury White Series GRAPHICS : ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 PS : Corsair CS650M CPU Coller : Cooler Master Hyper 212+ EVO " Please speak for yourself, I do not wish for an option to be able to turn off weather effects. what a nice strawman,
ignore the elephant in the room tackle a small issue in an area that isn't close to the real problematic zones come to the conclusion that nothing is wrong. | |
Rain takes up a load of GPU power, just the first screen when i log in with the boat in the rain makes my card work harder than a normal map

Can i say i told you so? I never had issues with any rain in this game, in fact it makes for good immersion. Thanks for clarifying it to the ones that still play on PCs from 1997 or people who play on laptops or people who play with 200 dollar potato PCs. 500 euro PC here, good enough for POE, rain or not.

You guys all realize that an angry post without system specs don't help to the developers? (And an: "I have a laptop with integrated graphics" is NOT a system spec)
The worst computer in my circle of friends is my brother's. He has no load or FPS problems with rain. (His FPS suck just general) but the load time of the game when he start it is up to 4 min without SSD. I don't blame the game, because D3(on re), Marvel Heroes all has this problem. This is a 7 years old computer. C2D E6600 4Gb RAM AMD 5770 VGA HDD WD Green 5200 RPM (slower than the average HDD) Windows 7 SP2 However the rain problem is exist maybe not the loading time, but I often see people disconnected when we enter to a dock themed map. I don't know about their computer, but if it is not a laptop specific problem then maybe their PC is older or worse then this 7 years old one.
