Its being misused because the OP made a mistake, its not like the other guy told him to give him that gem with quality. Sure he kept it which was wrong but the OP is wrong as well for not checking and trusting s stranger to give it back let alone the fact that the guy he gave the gems to might not even be "desperate" in the sense the OP might think but just desperate to make a profit.
Hmm, he was given the vaal version of the gem when he was promised a normal one. I see your point if the OP gave the wrong item by mistake, but that's not the case. Is the word scam still being misused?
Still misused.
Why didn't OP checked the gem before pressing "confirm"? Even though he HOVERED OVER it for screen to go "green". And he didn't noticed it was a corrupted gem (like, you know, RED LINE saying "corrupted")?
Nope. Let's blame the other people in own inattentiveness.
Again. This case is far from "scam". It's not even sophisticated enough to be classified as a "scam".

Well, this is a self victimization thread, not a scam thread. Someone made a mistake and the other guy didnt give the gem back. So basically someone scammed himself. And the trading system only works if people use their brains. ;)
Let's see this situation more closely.
OP actually received 7 chaos orbs and level 18 BloodMagic gem.
The only issue is that BM gem is already corrupted, so the one thing OP won't be able to do is (possibly) get level 21 BM with his own Vaal orb.
Now. Was it really worth such a drama-thread? It's just a game and pixels, grow up please
Ops my bad! Maybe you are playing Path of Exile alone as single player, i'm old MMO player and used to have interactions with other players, even with players i'm not playing with, want me to copy paste or type it again? (i can type its ok) I'm not angry or mad about the lost, and i accept it was my fault i didnt checked it before accepting, but i blame that little part of humanity that i still got left about sharing this kinda of stories with players who actually are interested what is going also around theirselves.
Thank you for your support to community.
Audreyness.

Thank you for your assumption, but i play with other people (i'm in guild, you can see this in my profile).
Moreover, i'm trading items, orbs and gems. Still didn't have such situation (in PoE) like you described.
Why? I double-check things.

If you're such a veteran - you should know better than other people how exactly you can be "scammed" in MMO. Not to mention that the trick with "same item icons" is old as hell...

So i'll ask again "what was the main reason of this thread?"

If you really wanted "to share a story about possible scam" - you could've omit the names and just tell the "essence of the fraud".
As i said - you chose the opposite.
Check your morality first before appealing to community and describing yourself as an innocent victim.
I said all what i wanted. Thank you. Continue to justify yourself, i'm out.

Scammers are fully responsible for their own actions; so as long as they're acting with their own free will, there's plenty to blame them for.

@MildorDArkehn
I remember you, you are always taking peoples Sacrifice Sets and Mortal Sets and charge them chaos for a "Service" but then you just kick them out of the party and steal the set and the loot and their currency.
I also know you have an account on a well known RMT website. It's easy to prove, you have all this awesome gear but don't have the skill to level up to 90 with your characters? Such RMT!
You want proof? Give me 10 minutes with Photoshop and I'll give you all the frigging proof you need.
<--- See how easy it is to make shit up?
The Name & Shame policy is NOT (and never has, never will, and never should) be used to protect those actually guilty of screwing over people, but rather to protect people who could be screwed over by those with a grudge.
Put it in perspective, how many people do you think actually scam? A few hundred? A few thousand?
Compare that to how many people talk shit about or to other players - it's a drop in the bucket. The moment you open up the floodgates, the forums will be nothing but people accusing each other of being scammers/botters/RMTers...
You don't need photoshop. Go to one of those sites, create userid: MildorDArkehn (if it already exists, well...it's even easier to frame someone who might have actually already done it). Then start posting and doing sketchy things.
After a bit, point it out to GGG. Don't forget to brag on the RMT site that you mule and leverage a VPN and change your MAC ID in your windows registry regularly to avoid detection.
This is just the first layer of the frame job. So much more could be done easily.
Photoshop of conversations can be verified to not be true by GGG.
Careful what you ask for people....you may actually become a victim rather than pretending to be one on the forum.
Thanks for all the fish!

But remember, we don't care if GGG bans them, we just want the playerbase to not trade/party with them.
So photoshopped conversations and hearsay is probably enough to accomplish that job. Hell, we might even get a couple of players to start PMing vicious attacks on the person and make them want to quit.
I wonder if we should RBS these little snippets, we could be training people how to do this shit.

Massive thanks to GGG for producing such a fun and engaging game, it has taken up faaaaaaar too much of my life over the last 5 years.
Best of luck in the future!

True, maybe it is the malicious part of me but I figure the deathblow has longer lasting feeling..but you are right, toying with someone would have some enjoyment to it as well.
Thanks for all the fish!

Lvl 18 or lvl 20 bm gem makes no difference. Same if the gem is corrupted. Quality on it is crap. Don't think people use bm gem on low life.
In my eyes you made a 7 chaos profit. You ought to be happy.
