Answering Questions about Insane Mjolner Gavel if interested.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I find the build quite fun. Thanks for the heads up, Paragon1. Began trying it out last night, when my templar hit level 60. I had a slight challenge with how to reach high enough intelligence, but with the help of a ring and a shield I finally got there. Going to play this build for the next few days/weeks. Previously I've been playing a cyclone discharger up to 82 and that's been quite fun. I do however feel that cyclone is a bit uncontrollable. I also can't seem to get that build "hardened" - feels a bit like a glass cannon.

My current gear for this build:
Spoiler

Obviously I can do better for the chest, shield, ring and gloves, but for now this will have to do :)

When reaching level 68 & 70 I've got these items waiting:
Spoiler

Will be fun to see how one can best utilize the 6-link.

Hey nice, really glad to see your having fun with the build.

I think I might write up a more detailed build guide since I have gotten so many PMs asking about the build.

Yeah, why not!
Still leveling here. Got to level 70 now, but I still feel a bit squishy :)

Hey everyone,

I was inspired by what I read here several weeks ago and decided to give it a try. This build has been a ton of fun and seems to do as much damage as my other build (Vulcan's Exemplar) but plays much safer. So I started as a Scion because I already had a level 85 one that needed a spec since 1.3. I made some minor tweaks to the build the OP posted here - nothing major, though.

My Tree

Gearing for this build was interesting. On one had you have to get all the strength and intelligence you need to equip the Mjolners but also a fair amount of dexterity for some of the gems. Originally, I planned to use my Voll's Devotion to do a crap-ton more damage with my Discharge but I quickly realized that was not going to be practical. The only legitimate solution to the dilemma was the Astramentis amulet. This solved the dexterity issue completely. Strength was not an issue since my skill tree was almost exclusively along Strength routes. That meant that I just needed to get good intelligence rolls on my other pieces of gear.

At first I spec'd into a few 30 point int nodes to get going but once I was able to pick up a few new pieces of gear I was able to spec out of them.

The other interesting gear-related notes were that with Resolute Technique you do not need to worry about accuracy or crit on gear (or passives) so it makes gearing pretty easy (and cheap). For the non unique equipment slots you really just need intelligence, life, good armor and moderate resists. Speaking of resists, this passive tree yields a boat-load of resists;

40 to all elemental resists
plus
18 to cold
18 to lightning
26 fire
20 chaos

so this makes it really easy to severely overcap resists.

My Current Gear
Spoiler

I'd still like to upgrade my gold ring to include better life, strength and perhaps some chaos resists.

Also ignore the gem links in my helm - still sorting that out.

I wanted to see how I could make up for not being able to use my Voll's ammy so I made some tweaks to my gem setup. Instead of using conductivity with my Curse on Hit setup I am using Warlord's Mark. So now my cursing generates endurance charges for my Discharge (more damage) but it also provides me with very goof life AND mana leech. This means I don't need to run a Life Leech gem in my Mjolners, rather I use a 20/20 Iron Will which is something like 100% more spell damage with as much strength as we run with. I also don't need mana leech from gear.

What I was originally concerned with was how reliably everything would be cursed so I was getting reliable leech. Holy Moly was I surprised in a good way. With the way Arc fires off in a gajillion directions from mob to mob EVERYTHING is instantly cursed. I mean mobs 2 screens away are cursed well before I even see them. I have no need for a LL gem in this setup.

For auras, I'm running Determination and Purity of Lightning. The extra armor along with 308% from the tree and the fact that I am using a Lioneye's Remorse shield get me to 72% damage reduction. This along with 182% life from the tree (plus 86 base life from tree) and good life on each piece of gear and I'm running with a whopping 6k life pool.

What do I like about this build?

Great DPS although the tool tip doesn't say squat

Ranged - hardly anything gets to me and whatever does get close is obliterated by the rapid machine-gun discharges.

No need for manual cursing

Can take hits well and not die instantly when hit hard

The one thing I am not liking at the moment is my run speed. With only 15% on my boots, -5% from Lioneye's shield and the armor penalty, I'm creeping along. I'm not real big on leap slamming around or lightning warping although I'll probably have to give in. I'm currently leveling a LW and reduced duration gem but for now I just run around.

A few other interesting notes. With the gems/sockets I currently use, I could swap out the Iron Will gem for a LL gem when running no curse maps so I can heal myself. I will say this, however, I did a Zana mission last night that had the no curse mod and I honestly did fine without Warlord's Mark leech and didn't even have to swap out my Iron Will gem.

This got me thinking, I can swap out my CoH and WM in my main link and replace it with Item Quantity and Item Rarity gems (same colors) and run lower level maps with it to do some easy farming.

EDIT: just realized that IR and IQ might only apply to the Lightning Strike kills and not the Arc/Discharge from Mjolners - not sure yet how that works. Does it work by virtue of the curses that are applied?

I love the versatility of this set up.

Well that's all for now. Take care.

coc wouldn't want no chance to crit, why do u mention that passive skill?

Romira's Banquet is necessary to get power charges for use in Discharge. Good luck getting enough crit to make a 5.0 base crit chance 1.05 attack speed work and have enough attributes to actually use a Mjolnir.
