Answering Questions about Insane Mjolner Gavel if interested.
Hi,
I know I had allot of questions about this weapon when I first bought it and so I thought I would just make this to answer any questions that others might have. I was just hoping to provide some positive feedback about the build. I am currently 84, almost 85 with the build and so far it is my favorite build ever after playing probably 100 builds over the past 2 years or so. It really is super easy to get going once you have the 3 items required for the build in my opinion. I had those and soon as I hit 60 I threw my Mjolner on and started having insane fun watching stuff melt instantly. As I leveled I picked up these 3 items which really helps allot. For those that do not know, how the hammer works, basically every time you hit something the hammer has a 50% chance to cast any lightning spells in the hammer. It will cast in order from top left, to right, then bottom. So if you have arc quality in the top left, it will cast first, shock enemies, then discharge goess off for a increased amount to the shocked mobs. You can use this to your advantage when trying to configure your spells in your hammer. Let me post my stats and below I will talk a little about the build, reflect which is really a joke and few other things about the build. There is really no need to post anything about the offensive power of this build as it is so insane you will almost always kill the whole screen in seconds. Defensively I have 61% phys reduction with Determination running, and 76/75/78 elemental resists. 32% Block and 25% spell block. I run Vaal Pact with Life leech which pretty much makes me invincible. Basically I run Curse on hit with my Qaulity Herald of thunder linked to a 20% Conductivity. This allows me to basically auto curse without having to worry about cursing. I do carry a regular warlords mark, which I rarely use. But if I am on a elemental reflect map and I encounter a elemental reflect pack inside that map I will hit them with warlords mark to get that insane life leech going on. Against tougher bosses I use it also to keep my health up at 100%. Vs Reflect in general I find that I can hit a full screen of reflect mobs and my life will actually go up. This is because of life leech and Vaal Pact which makes life leech instant. And of course warlords mark adds a substantial amount more life leech to boot. As far as how the build works it is pretty simple. I use Resolute Technique which gives you a 100% chance to hit, but makes your chance to crit 0%. This is actually great in a number of ways. First you do not want to crit in my opinion as it makes dealing with reflect so much easier when you dont have to worry about crit. And Second this ring below works great with that node. Every hit generates a power charge, and so since you never crit, you only lose the charges when your Discharge goes off. My discharge uses 5 power charges all the time like this. The ring ability to generate power charges works on everything. So when I use my lightning strike and it chains I get multiple power charges, and when arc goes off I get power charge, Discharge will go off and consume them for massive damage and then generate a power charge to boot. So it starts all over again with 1 power charges minimum every time. The key to making the damage really insane is getting out as many things that counts as attack hits as possible to proc Mjolners spells. I am currently using Lightning Strike with GMP - Faster Attacks- Blood Magic - Multistrike - Chain. So basically every time I attack, it will attack 3 times. With my current attack speed I am only getting around 4 attacks per second but every attack generates 7 projectiles that will all chain 2 times. The projectiles can pierce because of quality LS but if they pierce they will not chain, so either is actually ok. What this does is throws out and insane amount of projectiles all chaining everywhere at an insane speed. And like I said the more things get hit , the more Mjolner goes off. I have actually attacked a group of mobs with a Volatile Blood and got 20 stacks of Blood with just One Lighting Strike Attack because of the sheer amount of Arc/Discharges going off. I would also like to note that this build is super intense on your GFX card and PC, I currently never get any lag, but if you intend to play this build I would first make sure you can actually handle it ok with out too much visual lag. And that is pretty much the basics. If anyone is interested more about my build, the hammer or has any questions I will do my best to answer them and explain anything that I can to help. |

in before the nerf.
If you're reading this, I'm probably on another year-long ban.
Thanks GGG. |

Sounds like a lot of fun and tough times for your GPU and cooling system with all those rapid discharges in quick successions.

" Nah, PoE doesn't have that good engine. My GPU gets stuck at 50% usage max no matter what. |

POE has worst game engine in gaming history.
GGG should really spent the money they earn -like truckloads of money- to improve the game. Squirrel is love, Squirrel is life.

A life variation of the 'rainbownuke' style build, but instead of Voll's Devotion you're using Astra to help with the stat requirements. Came up with this variation on my own a while back, though went low life with it since I had the equipment to do so. Still, the life variation is quite nice as well, especially since it's generally cheaper and easier to gear for than using more expensive LL gear. Would be interested to see what your skill tree is, the rest of your gear, as well as what you're running for flasks, and hopefully you've got a Rumi's Concoction to help out with the block.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest trying out Molten Strike and running a different setup with it: Molten Strike -> GMP -> Faster Attacks -> Curse on Hit -> Conductivity -> Multistrike This unlocks you from having to use the CoH setup on Herald of Thunder and with the vast amount of projectiles spewing out from Molten Strike, you're going to curse everything around you much faster than HoT can. Also, this is much less mana intensive than your setup so you can run it on mana without too much of an issue, or at least with much less of an issue than you might be now since you're using Blood magic in your setup. However, if after trying it out you find you like Lightning Strike better then consider these pointers: 1. Do not level LS past level 5. Doing so is not needed since you're not relying on LS's damage to kill things, but rather using it strictly as the mechanism to trigger Mjolner's procs. Leveling it any higher increases its base mana cost, which in turn gets multiplied by the other support gems you're using and thus costs more to cast with little benefit to you. 2. Do no use a quality LS at all. This is one of the few times where you don't want quality on your gem. To take full advantage of Chain you don't want any piercing chance at all, especially with LS's projectiles and that enemies aren't always going to line up for said projectiles to hit properly. Chain ensures they'll target something and hit it without issue. 3. Consider dropping the Chain gem for something else. If I recall correctly, Mjolner's 'Skills Chain +1 Times' also applies to any other skills you are using that can Chain, not just the spells socketed into it. In your case, that includes Lightning Strike, so you're already getting half the effect of a Chain gem for free and with no extra mana multiplier. If that still holds true, then you can drop Chain from your current gem setup and fill it in with something else. If gem colors aren't an issue then you have a few choices: - Culling Strike (full quality will add an extra 10% IAS to your LS attack) - Added Lightning Damage (a little extra damage and quality will give you added shock duration and chance) - LMP (Go really crazy with additional projectiles, though might be overkill :p ) - Life Gain on Hit (if you want even more ways to regen life) Also, if you're not doing a reflect map then consider dropping the LL gem in your Mjolner and using an Iron Will gem instead. Since you're already packing a large amount of Strength just to wield the hammer this gem will allow you an increase in damage to Arc and Discharge via applying Strength's normal melee physical damage bonus to spell damage. Example: 412 Strength will give you an additional 82% increased Spell Damage to both Arc and Discharge (5 points of Strength = 1% increased MPD, and IW will convert that to 1% increased Spell Damage), which can be quite a big boost especially if you're not getting spell/elemental damage from elsewhere in huge quantities. Not to mention the quality on the Iron Will gem will give you another 15% increased spell damage, which is nice. Hope that all helps. :) Mjolner is definitely a fun unique to use and glad you're enjoying it. |

" If your build can also generate Frenzy or Endurance charges, you should consider swapping Conductivity for a quality Elemental Weakness gem. Discharge would be more powerful. Has anyone tried socketing Spell Echo in the hammer ? |

" Hey appreciate the tips. I think I might try the LS tip you gave and play around with it. But yea I pretty much am just using really cheap life gear with ton of life/resist/armour to hit that 14k armour with determination up and around 6k life. And to be honest I have not thought much about trying to increase my damage as it seems to ridiculous at the moment. I have played around with Iron Will for more damage but in the end I just use life leech as you are pretty much invincible with it. I am currenty using rainbowstride and ratpith globe for spell block, just more defense really. I have I think 33% block and 27% spell block, not that high but its definately high enough. I can post my build if you are interested. Overall I am plesed with the build. |

Hi, thanks for the tips about mjolner. I've wanted to buy one since its release, but never had enough wealth. As i looted a shav's recently, I'll probably try to buy one in the next weeks, and I'm not sure what exact build I'll be playing.
Do you have some spell/ele damage? Is it powerful enough against single target? Can you please link your gear and tree? I was thinking about going RF as well, because lot of strength is needed, so the passive tree would be focused around marauder, which contains lot of life regen nodes. If anyone has tried that, can you please share your thoughts? Last edited by Porcoflic#6806 on Jan 5, 2015, 9:07:06 AM

" Yea, Hi. To answer your questions. First of all, I have a little spell damage. 39% of the Mjolner, 60% on shield. and a few nodes on the passives tree which definitely helps a ton. To answer your second question, It is extremely good vs singel target. Specially on most maps, as most maps have adds around the boss. In fact most bosses die in about 1-2 seconds if not faster. I run to the boss, or next to then lightning strike adds all over the room which procs Mjolner to arc/discharge at an insane rate, maybe 20-35 times a second, depending on mob density. Even at time where you have to single target the boss I use double strike, the mob will die insanely fast, and the sheer amount of instant life leech that you get really makes up for it, as you are never in any real danger of dieing. The thing about RF and life regen is this, You would not be able to use Vaal pact, and to me Vaal Pact is the single most important thing in my build as it makes me 100x more tanky and invicible to all forms of reflect. A Full screen of reflect mobs will actually fill up my life. I use life leech with my arc/discharge so vaal makes this instant at 40%, you add in warlords mark for another 8% or whatever you are pretty much un-killable in most situations. I seriously dont think vaal pact is needed, but you would have to consider your build more carefully. I took vaal pact with my life based build as it just makes me a super tank. Here is my passive tree. I take allot of defensive nodes and really focus allot on armour and increased shield block and stats. I think i have upwards of 300% increased armour, which is then multiplied by determination which is really nice. I usually sit around 14k armour in game and around 60% physical reduction. Build EDIT: I just wanted to make a note that the build should be changed to compensate for any stats that you might need. I know you said you wanted to go Marauder and that is fine, I just took Scion for the look of the character as I do not like the way Marauders look. But for all intents and purposes, Marauder or even Templar would be the same result in my build. Scion is prolly the least desirable choice however like I said I just wanted to play Scion :) Current Gear.
Spoiler
Besides the uniques I think I paid just few chaos on each rare. I will maybe upgrade them sometime as I have about 20 exalt saved up so far but I am not really sure I even need to. Overall the build is very cheap except for the Mjolner, a 2 Ex for neck and like 25c for ring. I think I paid 2ex for Shield, but that could very easily be replaced with a 10c shield with over 100 life and 1000 armour, which would then get scaled up to something like 5000 armour effectively. Overall I clear maps at probably the fastest rate that I have ever on any build that I have ever used currently. Let me know if you have any more questions, I will try to answer to the best of my knowledge.\ EDIT: Just thought about this. You could run a 3-4 link with the 3 counter attack gems in the game, and with enough block you could have them all 3 going off at once. They do proc the Mjolner to fire the spells off, I dont use this as I dont feel it is needed, but it would be an option if you wanted to have more single target damage, more Procs basically.
