is Static Strike strong? [build inside] [20k DPS milestone reached]

I think I have a Meginord Girdle stashed somewhere, but I'm kind of torn between it, a Lightning Doryani, and my current belt.
primarily because I need the resistances, and am planning to go Vaal Pact which will benefit from Doryani's leech.

I am lacking res because of the belt (still worth it because more life and DPS), and other gears, but with Purity of Elements, all of that issue went away. Of course, I would recommend Lightning Doryani since it is the next best belt for your build after Meginord's Girdle.

there are other questions like this. i think it is some kind of sociology experiment rather than a serious build thread (that should be in the 'class subforum' anyway.. not here)

such as?

ask seriously, and I'll be happy to explain.

first - why you post it here at all. this isnt a build section, and people were doing PotCG builds ages ago, we ALL already know static strike is strong - so why here? this post in Templar section would not create such questions and furthermore would provide you with (i think - much needed) build help. if you need help - gameplay help section is i think more appropriate..

second - 'build related' - hatred? where? your Static Strike links are crazy.. where is reduced mana for herald of ice? why gems seem to be at random level (reduced mana - again). what are your planned defense mechanics? some armor wont cut it with abyssus and reflect from Static Strike. that reflect HURTS, and hurts the more AOE you have..

third - this concept of your is - to put it lightly - all over the place and as such is not really a 'build' with a theme. it is just a random set of passives and concepts.

if you want to fix the third - just put an abstract: i want this build to scale with X, using Y and Z. currently it is crit, aoe, aspd, counterattack gems, ele and god knows what else. it wont work in the long run - poe might be simple but still requires some kind of focus

EVERY SKILL in a 3 link works until merciless. so currently noone is really impressed...
1) correct. I think I'll ask it to be moved into Templar Builds section at some point.
it started as a "strength of Static Strike" discussion, as you see from the first posts, but now it is a build thread.

2) check updated gear and links. switched gems yesterday a bit.

3) planned defenses? well it's a "fun build" for SC, with a strong "glass cannon" direction - so I didn't put too much thought into that, to be honest.
instant leech with Vaal Pact and a nice LGoH or Life Leech gem when I get it, should improve that aspect. together with the Endurance Charges I get from tree and (possibly) Merciless Oak.
don't really want to do the usual boring Cast When Damage Taken setup though, unless I really, really have to.

4) the main concept, is Static Strike. its charge gain speed, AoE, and damage scaling - and how all of the above benefit greatly from the awesome synergy between the skill, Pillar Of The Caged God, and Astramentis, then supplemented by Abyssus to an extreme.
I never claimed my build to be "unique" in any way. just a proof of this concept.

5) I don't want to "fix the third", nor do I wish to "impress" anyone, as stated in part (4).

How does this build hold up against Hailrake in merciless?
FullBlownDaddy here. FullBlownDaddy sees that your build is less than optimal and suggest you take the time to learn some basic game mechanics. For example, do you know the difference between 'more' and 'increased'? If so remove added fire damage and replace it with the appropriate gem aka melee phy.

Peace, FullBlownDaddy™
"FullyBlownDaddy"-FullBlownDaddy™
"FillBlownDaddy"-GGG
"FullBlownMommy"-Casual_Ascent
FullBlownDaddy™ should look at the entire setup instead of just one gem.

Added Fire is there because Weapon Elemental Damage is there.
Weapon Elemental Damage is there, because Static Strike and Herald Of Ash are there.
and Weapon Elemental Damage is also the reason why my 6th link in the Tabula Rasa used to be Physical To Lightning.

all of the above, are higher priority than Melee Physical Damage.
so I put it on the counter gem, and it does great work by giving me upwards of 3k DPS on a counter.

elemental damage - although prone to Reflect and very hard to leech - has the added property of actually doing what it says, instead of being mitigated against monsters' armor due to the fact my individual hits aren't too strong.

you can rightly argue the rest of my links aren't optimal, and I'll likely change those as I go. but I'm very happy with my 5-link.
