It is horrible how some people abuse their POWER

What would 2 days of muting do for an offensive name?

2 days is enough time to contact support for a name change.
Thats bullshit to me. If his name is not allowed the why would the devs let that character be created? If it is a mod/dev policy to mute people for their name that is utterly asinine. What would the purpose be to mute a character for their name?

Answer?

EDIT: Also, looking back at the picture it seems you were not given a reason for the muting. That is also bullshit and we as the players should be concerned about this 'muting' practice.

Congrats Chris & others for cashing out! I don't blame you. I'll be saving money now... unless I start making a lot more. Can't wait to see if you guys start a new studio in six years! RIP GGG

They mute them to stop them being able to post in general/trade so that others cannot see the "offensive" name - when the name is changed, if that was the major bone of contention for the mute, it's usually lifted early.

Since this was over 12 hours, this was a developer that muted you and not a moderator - just to clear that up.

Someone probably reported your name in chat as you were talking to the guy - Anal_Knight I would say isn't an appropriate name.

The process for renaming is 1) you're muted for an extended period of time and put on a renaming list 2) The developer gets with you on what you'd like the name to be renamed to 3) you're unmuted.

Due to the name being inappropriate, it would be bad to just keep a name out there in chat to let others possibly get offended while you wait for a developer to have the time to rename you.

Not sure if serious.

If serious, the terms of use specify

..that any such username or other identifier will not:

(b) contain foul language, inappropriate subject matter, obscene, harassing, threatening, hateful, or discriminatory or defamatory remarks of any nature as may be determined by Grinding Gear Games in its sole discretion or otherwise be in contravention of any law or court order.

They are not expected or able to maintain a blacklist, much less a whitelist of acceptable or unacceptable names.

A mute is a reprimanding finger-wag as far as I can see, they could do much worse.
95% of all statistics I use are backed up by SCIENCE.

I added an edit to my response, which if this is common practice for muting (offensive names) does the player receive a notice to change their name?

And in defense, anal doesnt necessarily mean 'sodomy'. ...although I do bet that's it means in this case lol

in all seriousness mods need to add a reason when they mute. punishing without reason is counterproductive- they don't always know what they did wrong and just end up confused and upset instead of learning from the mistake
