Do you ever wonder how GGG stays in business
People just don't understand scale. They think that 1000 people playing are the only people who are ever playing. This base might be the majority of hours played, but it's not their main source of income. The casual who chips in $20 here and there and plays off and on is a much larger slice of the pie.

As for the number of employees, just watch the Twitch Q&A from yesterday. Chris specifically mentions 50 employees in the building.

They earn quite a lot of money from the MTX and from the supporter packs.
Also have private investors as well. GGG ain't short of money right now. "Minions of your minions are your minion's minions, not your minions." - Mark

For all that people keep insisting that the game is dead or whatever, it's interesting to note that even just a quick glance at the season ladders shows there are already over 15000 characters in Torment over level 30 and 15k more in Bloodlines over 22. And that's not even counting all the people still playing the permanent leagues or who just didn't have time to play in the first 24 hours of the league or who don't show up on the ladders. So there's clearly plenty of people playing. If even 1 in 10 of those buys a supporter pack, it's going to add up to a decent amount of money coming in.
