Sa_Re, you're right -- but you've ignored the basic point I made. This has always been a concern, this subconscious or otherwise usage of 'inside' knowledge. This is really no different to the time alpha testers (and there were a lot more then) were able to test Act 3 before Live, quite a bit earlier than Live, and this probably affected their race performance. I'm completely ignoring the quite frankly unrealistic possessiveness expressed by the OP. If they're THAT worried about integrity of PvP, for God's sake, go play a game designed to accommodate proper regulated, balanced PvP. There are plenty such games. This is PoE and it's GGG, and it still has an alpha realm comprised of hand-picked players who WILL know more about the coming content than those who do not. For the purpose of testing, all characters are on the server. They're all GGG's property. If GGG want to use that character to test something, they can. I don't know if they did or not, and I frankly don't care. This is about what is happening, what will happen.
Don't like it? Play something else. Seriously. Because that's the only way you're going to keep 'your' character away from GGG's testing should they wish to do so.

It's one thing to test, it's another to just out his entire passive tree and gem setup which also gives you a whole lot more insight to the player as a whole then you think.
And PvP was always a major addition that GGG wanted to add as a competent and serious mode. Dunno why everyone is saying 'hur dur PvP sucky'

This did not happen. His character build has in no way been shared with non-staff.

After the 1 week Turbo in 2012 we decided to use trade many regret orbs the last days and allocate EB+CI the last day while removing the useful nodes, so devs can't use the character as basis to nerf anymore.
FYI the 1 week Turbo in CB caused the first Totem nerf because almost everybody in the Top 20 was using double totems.
If you don't want devs to use your character especially on alpha put them in a useless state and remove equipment.

Not needed PoE only used one local backup for rollbacks. Logout Login and they only have a useless backup snapshot and useless active snapshot of a character.
Be certain if GGG ever introduces Skillreset MTX everybody will reset the Skilltree to counter "Nerf by gut feeling" or "Nerf because popular" there aren't any nerfs based on a mathematical basis.
