" I beg to differ. Some of the things characters own are paid for in the MTX store and you have every right to own that stuff, if your character happens to have it equipped I'd definitely say you "own" that character. The extension of this is that GGG can effectively disable stuff you purchased for actual money at any time of their choosing, which I don't like. I do think the OP is getting uppity about nothing, but I don't think it's right to criticize him for being mad GGG commandeered his character. I can see some people getting mad about that and if you had put money into the game and had this happen you might be a little bothered too. I can see it from GGG's side too, but maybe it would be better if there was some option to allow GGG staff to use your characters when they want to that is checked by default and can be unchecked. Personally I'd be ok with GGG doing whatever they wanted with my character as long as it was left unchanged when they were done, but some may not feel that way. Of course, legally, there's probably a disclaimer somewhere that says GGG can do whatever they want with your stuff whether you paid for it or not, but well... why not just avoid these scenarios and not cause problems? There are implications to be considered. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. " I was not talking about MTX things, as those are paid with by your money so those will fall into a bit more of a gray area. I was talking about the base character, gear, gems, and the like...things that are found in-game and are not paid for by money given directly to GGG. I also added the last part giving some credit to the OP and saying that GGG could have certainly at least sent him a PM/notification that they were considering using his character and as such they could also simply ask if he/she is ok with using it. A little courtesy, basically. |

Except you do not "own" those cosmetics. When you buy points, and spend points on cosmetics, you are buying the privilege to use them on GGG's servers.
There is a huuuuuge distinction between that and, say, going out to the store and buying a fancy t-shirt. Edit: And no, there is no gray area ^-^ When you create an account, you sign a contract which obligates GGG to provide a service (controlled access to their game servers). Everything on those servers is the property of GGG, and the terms of that contract are mutable by GGG at any time. To those who are clueless about the PVP scene, players builds remain top secret otherwise the counters are easily found and the build is no longer as effective as before.
By releasing his PVP build, it allows others to understand the way it works and he now has a unfair disadvantage to those who were exposed to workings of the build. While GGG may own everything, it's unethical towards the PVP community and the player base as a whole, to reveal someone else's build when he had worked so long and hard on to maintain it a secret and perfect it. Lot of ignorant people in here. I am sending you this message to let you know that I have removed your signature as it is designed to mislead others. Please refrain from using similar signatures in the future. - Rob_GGG

^ I do absolutely agree with that.
It is completely understandable, the need to test balance and changes with real builds, but PVP testing with somebody else's work should remain 100% in-house. Devolving Wilds

They don't take your char and put it back later, they actually use a copy.
But i agree that using your secretly honed pvp char with/against other people in pvp is wrong. That shouldn't have happened. Esp. with the upcoming pvp events. CliveHowlitzer wrote:

Wait, they TOLD OTHER PVP'ers how your character worked, as in, how the passive tree/links etc is set up?
You got to be kidding. LOL |

I'm with the OP on this one. All the Ninja shit going on constantly is bad enough. Alpha's shouldn't be testing other players characters. GGG can check for balance issues etc.... sure no problem, but giving that type of an advantage to Alpha's is just bullshit.
Don't worry though, most Alpha's would probably hand in their designation before doing something back handed like this. Most ... not all. echo "The world is full of smart people" |sed -e 's/smart people/sheep/'

" I don't think it would work that way in a court, there are such things as implied contracts and etc. But really, it's a game, who cares. The people here are right in that the bigger issue stems from PVP secrets. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex.
