What solo mapping from 95-96 looks like
|
I make quite a lot of profit from solo mapping.
Here is your problem : 1. You dont alch/chaos your high level maps and therefore doesn't get enough map drops. 2. You avoid tons of map mods which means you need to spend more currency to craft your map/skip nice high IQ map roll because you don't want to deal with its mods. Lowbie casual chiming in, always play SC leagues (I love starting over) so I can relate and would like some advice. Played since OB, took break a little into release build and missed Vaal completely, started back in Rampage day 1.
I am lvl 79, going to push to 85-86 with this character to "finish" build, will be first time in the 80's too. Right now I am running the last of my 69's hoping to find 70/71 maps, and the Zana dailies are usually opening at 70-72 for me with a map drop (yay!) What should I be doing with my 69/70/71 maps...just running them, or transmute and maybe 1-2 alchs for high QTY or pack/magic monsters? How long will lvl 71,72,73,74,75 ish maps keep me leveling at a good pace? What do I do with them, rolling wise? I enjoy my build and don't mind grinding and just did a respec for more life and Vaal pact as reflecting my self to death was slowing down the grind. Side note: Anyone want to sell me some of the maps they can't use anymore, 70-74? Would love a bulk buy, feel free to PM if you have some laying around. Appreciate any input, cheers! |

" This is all incorrect, and I'm not sure you actually read my post. #1) I get plenty of map drops. I have more 77-78 map drops than currency to roll them. I do not run 75/76 maps due to lack of drops, but rather lack of currency to properly roll 77/78 maps. If you could always perfectly roll maps (chisel/alch/chaos for pack mod/onslaught/run), you could get close to permantently staying in 77+, but the expense is far beyond what is sustainable solo. #2) Because I alt for pack mods (which are suffixes), and all but one of the mods I avoid are suffixes, it does not add any meaningful expense to avoid those mods. I doubt it took more than one stack of alts to avoid ele reflect maps. Also, pack mods are far more effective for drops than a small boost in IIQ. My method results in 90-110% IIQ maps with pack mods on 77-78 maps, which is more than sufficient to sustain a pool. " How you run those low maps is 100% up to you. The most cost effective thing to do would just be to buy in at the 72-73 level since those maps are really cheap. If you want to build up your own pool quickly, then focus on rolling your highest level map as chisel/alch/chaos for pack mod/onslaught/run. If you keep that aggressive approach, you should be able to climb map tiers to 75+ fairly easily... when Forsaken Masters hit and I started leveling past 90, I only had a few 73 and 74 maps, and using this method I was into 77+ in no time. You can level effectively on those mid tier maps until about level 90. Interesting thread. I do have a question though:
When you keep mentioning Onslaught, do you mean the 8 Chaos mod from the Map Device? Or the Haste mod on the maps themselves? Thanks in advance. Team Won

" I mean the 8 chaos mod from the map device (formerly 6 chaos when I did most of these maps). I'll put a note in the OP to make that clear. The 352nd character to hit Level 100 in Standard

" Sell them? Stop using onslaught mod? 6c for a single map, of course you're never gonna get out 6c per map without freaking high MF gear. Either one, depending how much maps you get and if the map drops are worth 6c a map. I rarely run 77+ map only as started a new char after a 91 one and a 88, and the new one isn't there yet. But I've never seen my pool go super low with just alch and chisel whenever possible. I run all the mods with either of my 2 high levels so it is as cheap as it gets. Maybe if you wanna run only 78 you'll have some trouble, but sometimes i really like to play plateau and precinct for example, fast and easy. Nice clear speed though 209 maps in less than 23h, that's fast. Are you still picking up stuff at this speed? Might be a reason why it feels so expensive. Also I totally get haku but I don't get catarina. I would understand vagan for example, but catarina? |

" The Onslaught mod is actually not that bad an expense. It is cheaper overall to just use that than to try to alch/chaos for a good map, and it's by far the cheapest way I've found to keep up a 77+ pool of maps. At least, that was the case when it was 6c per run. I am not sure about 8c. Trust me, if you want to chisel/alch/chaos your maps until you get 90%+ IIQ with a pack mod, it is going to cost you a fair bit more than 6 chaos per map, and you'll be running much more difficult maps, which slows down your clear speed. I did trade maps up to 74 and sell those, also made a couple bulk 75 sales, but I treated that as shop income and put towards the purchase of my 21/20 gems. You are correct that if I was dumping that expense back into maps, I could have run more 77/78 maps and fewer 75/76. I was still picking things up - not that there's much to pick up with 0 MF - my build just has one of the better clear speeds in the game; it pretty much 1-shots everything so all the clear time is just in running through the map, which doesn't take too long at 30% move speed. I almost 1-shot Vagan, so he's not a problem. I did a Catarina mission once in a vulnerability/+dmg Palace map where I almnost got 1-shot by a mummy from 8k ES (it dropped my ES and left me with like 50 life). Scared the crap out of me and I decided I wasn't going to bother with her missions anymore. Her missions are also SUPER slow and annoying as they almost always have you backtracking all over the map. Yeah I experienced that with my new char which is at the moment close to 0 IIR/IIQ. You finish the map without a full inventory of rares sometimes.
I think you may want to include some IIR/IIQ in your gear. I think last time I logged my runs, i did like 2 or 3ex mostly in currencies in 40 maps with like 20/70ish I think. There are a bunch of logs from another guy also in this subforum if you look for "300 alt challenge". Will probably net you a decent amount of currency back with not so much IIR/IIQ needed. For onslaught it cost you 492 chaos out of your 878 expense, so for sure it's good, but still damn expensive. I don't have the perfect solution, but you should try any of those: - less chaos spam, maybe run when you find 70% instead of 90%... - less onslaught - trade ele reflect/blood magic/no regen with someone who doesn't care, take his phys reflect for example. I don't think anyone is gonna trade your -max res ^^. Sure you'll get less map drops due to worse average quantity, but as you have more trouble sustaining currency than maps, it should help. |

" No way to get IIR/IIQ on my build. It would involve significant sacrifices on both DPS and ES to get gear with MF. Only way to get iir/iiq would be to drop several hundred exalts crafting gear designed just for my build. Also just to be clear: I was not chaos spamming maps, and it cost me almost zero currency to avoid those mods. I think the only way it may be possible to lessen the expense while maintaining pool sustainability would be to chisel/alch/run all maps 75+ and not worry about your map mods except maybe to drop a chaos on -max maps. I'm just not convinced that will enable you to get many 77/78 drops, but if it did, it would almost certainly be a much cheaper method and could cut costs in half. I just worry that would stick you running mostly 74-76 maps.
