PoE needs a Horadric Cube
Here are my thoughts on how to make the idea fair and viable:
Option a) - 4x4 Inside & Occupies 4x4 Outside Cons - Does not have vendor recipes - Loss of Tetris Power - Must go to town to vendor Pros - No Movement Speed penalty - No Inventory Size penalty - Free Option b) - 4x4 Inside & Occupies 5x5 Outside Cons - Loss of Tetris Power - Inventory Size penalty - Has a Less Movement Speed penalty Pros - Has vendor recipes (limited to 4x4). - No need to go to town (no flask refill, though) - Free Option c) - 6x6 Inside & Occupies 4x4 Outside Cons - Loss of Tetris Power - Has a Less Movement Speed penalty - Costs 1 Portal Scroll per Use Pros - Has vendor recipes (limited to 6x6). - No need to go to town to vendor (still need to if you want flask refill) - Increased Inventory Size Forum Warrior - Why are you creating a thread about this subject? " " This could be it, a serious IIQ/IIR reduction. This together with a fee on every use, making it not worth it to sell magic items and even rares with bad affixes. So let's say: -20% IIQ / -50% IIR 3 alch shards / 3 alt shards fee What do you guys think? "There are worlds that lie beyond the edge of my page, the edge of my understanding. Worlds of wonder. Worlds of terror." If something needs to be added, it shouldn't be added as an item. The Horadric Cube was terribly impractical, taking up space in your inventory to add 4 times as much in a window that you had to systematically open.
The most practical thing that comes to mind is another inventory window, either completely separate from the basic one, or a tab system. Either way you can easily control the size of this (these?) other window, making it possible to avoid over-sizing the inventory. Having this window shouldn't be monetized (and you should monetize its size either). Having a portable vendor isn't a good idea. Either this will mean you will trash sell loads of stuff, or you will have to put some fee or tax that will make it not be used for normal stuff. |

" One scroll isn't enough and a few shards might be too much. So fees should be left out. However it should be a "less" modifier for IIQ and IIR, and an equal one at that. -25% less doesn't seem too steep but -50% less seems to be getting a bit high, but then again we have MF cullers that could avoid this and use the cubes from other players. Or the MFer can charge higher fees for their services since others can get more loot, resulting in more yield from each map. Keep in mind it shouldn't just affect MF, but the character's survivability. If it's consuming a lot of your inventory, it's likely a heavy object. Not being able to move as quickly means not being able to dodge or evade as well. So penalties to dodge, evade, and movement should be part of it's downside. |

1 portal scroll is what it takes to go to town.
On my Option C) I suggested: 1 - Movement Speed Penalty 2 - 1 scroll on use 3 - 6x6 slots (vendor is 12x5). This means not only you acquire stuff slower and have less survivability, you also spend 1 scroll per use AND it takes you nearly 2 scrolls to sell 1 trip to town worth of items. I guess in the end it's really up to whether the item is meant to be truly optional, or a harmless upgrade. There is no need to feel like a heavy penalty. It's not that useful with proper downsides. This is an awesome idea, running maps and only picking up a small hand full of stuff because there are far too many things to loot is so annoying.
Though an item like this would make vendors pretty much useless imo. It should either be. - Rare as Mirror - Craftable like The Goddess Scorned but hard to attain. - Only way to get it is to Chance. |

what would stop me from selling every single white item that drops?

" If there is a cost for each use of the cube, then the main purpose of the cube is eliminated. Let's assume the cube costs about half of what you gain, in total, from each sale. This drastically increases the profit from each map and removes any reason to play in a group. Put in a few penalties, and the cube becomes required. However, if the cube costs nothing to use currency-wise, the cube becomes purely beneficial and required. This is easily fixed by adding the following penalties: 1. Reduced or less movement speed. It's a large item, and possibly heavy. 2. Less IIQ/IIR, since you can sell much more. This would probably lean more towards IIQ. 3. Reduced or less chance to evade and dodge, again since it's so large and/or heavy. This favors armor since armor is shit to begin with. 4. Lowered resistances, possibly by reducing maximum resistance, to make most combat harder. Now the item goes from purely beneficial and required to "Oh, should I risk carrying this?". Lowering IIQ/IIR makes people with high IIQ/IIR reconsider their choice. Lowered movement speed and resistances can heavily deter CoC builds, since reflect will be a big problem. Damage avoidance builds will also be heavily deterred since their survivability is greatly lowered. I think this would cover the vast majority of most broken builds out there. Of course there are more mods that can be added to deter all builds, if need be. We don't need more required items, like anti-freeze flasks and instant recovery life flasks. We need more "choice" items, where players build around the item and take advantage of it while most others can't. Just like Perandus Signet. |

I'm OK with it as long as it is hideous and takes up half of your inventory space but only has like enough slots inside for a pair of gloves.
