On reddit, Chris said they will take care of the dropbox detection program.

How does someone with a tool like that find the strongboxes without running around the level? The tool can't magically know information that the client hasn't been sent.

(Edit: context-wise, this reply is mostly to other posts that *edited* has made, in case you're wondering what tool I'm referring to)

Edit2: Right, I see how. It looks like that's already scheduled to get fixed. I'll raise the priority.

Seriously? Chris actually said this???

UNBELIEVAFUCKAble.

Doesn't even know how his OWN game WORKS?
WHY???

Are members of his coding team cheating????

Chris is the designer, not a programmer. It sounds like a programming error.

Alright people, look.

Hacking is in the game, it's real, it's easy to pull off, and that is a simple fact.

The game has little protection besides the fact that it handles a lot of things server side. HOWEVER, that is clearly not enough.
The way I see it, GGG is turning a blind eye on some game aspects - but perhaps not of their own will.

It's normal for people to sometimes loose perspective. I bet they were pretty secure with their implementation of handling things server side, and that it would be enough to prevent most hacks.

However, some exploit was found, and they were caught off guard. Now the important thing is that they need not to ignore the issue, but fix it.
And to fix it, they of course have to acknowledge it and accept it exists.

Sometimes we refuse/do not want to believe stuff that goes against our logic, but that's not always the best approach.

Good thing the community helps put things into perspective.

EDIT: Also, hacks finding boxes are not really as harmful as duping or spawning items, but they still can make a dent in the games economy, which is already one-sided enough. And most know, PoE is all about economy.

DblEDIT: Also, showing the hacks on a forum post is not an issue, stop pretending it is. If you can't google "Path of Exile Hacks", you probably can't even get the hack to work to begin with.

Does that mean youre hacking? O_O

Nah. It's just that hacks generally require to at least download and execute a file, you know, the types of things that require technical expertise (far from technical, but i'm sure you get the meaning) far beyond doing a simple google search.

I mean let's be logical here, if someone ever thought about hacking they already tried google which turns up plenty of results on the first page. Posting a screenshots or discussing hacks in the public forums is hardly going to result in more people hacking.

I have however used hacks in single player games, mostly open world ones, it's fun to screw with the system sometimes ;).

Edit for spelling.

Also happy to know GGG is on top of the situation.

I saw that you can buy the currency at that JSP site for cash. How the fuck isn't that RMT?
This is why D3 went self found. Even with Warden. Even with 80 programers at their disposal they couldn't stop the bots, cheats and RMT sites (beyond thier integrated RMT). Your OP makes it sounds way too easy.

Does it piss me off I do things the legit way and sporting a 5L prolly till season end while others are GG first few weeks sure but I won't let it get to me. Calm down. It's just a game. If you're not having fun do something that is fun in your free time.

There is like 50 RMT sites. It's big business. PoE and it's users casts itself as pure as driven snow and mocked D3's AH but it's same here in reality, only difference is GGG sadly isnt making 15% rake and they don't condone it.

GGG has likely grabbed up a few of the programs and looked into how they work. From what i understand they use screenshots of queststates and take control of a cursor. Something simple like a random code for your stash every time you open it and inventory alongside shuffling dialogue options would put it right in their butt. The only way they could get past that would be to actually hook into the process and risk being relayed to server side and then getting it even harder in the butt.
who cares what other people are doing as long as you enjoy the game
