" Hah, you'll never know. Don't lose any sleep over it. I'm sure many of us have our guess on why this is the 'flavor of the week' hot topic on GD. My personal opinion? It's a roundabout attack on desync. "You guys built it this way which will inherently cause desync problems even under the best of conditions and there are still cheats! Might as well scrap that approach." But who knows, it could be a strange sense of self loathing like the homophobic person that is openly hostile towards gays, but is mostly angry because he his hiding his own homosexuality. Maybe, they hate cheaters because....well you get the point. Point is, you'll never know. I'm more curious what the flavor of the week for GD will be next week. Maybe we can get SFL threads back. Hell, I was a Moderator at DTrades.org, ran the Smitadin ladder for PalaPk_Nation and established the BA(Barbarian Alliance) while helping thousands of people perform secure trades between players from Hellfire Torches and Annihilius' to actual Real Money transactions. Yes, there were MANY forums that had sections dedicated to helping people perform secure trades where REAL money was involved. I even helped my ol' Canadian buddy Brynn run EnzoD2.com. All of this happened and no one batted a single eye, NO ONE. Hell, most of the money I made on winning Good Mannered Melee Tournaments I put towards buying top of the line legit items for grand prizes for other Tournaments that I hosted. Yet, somehow the very notion of buying 1 chaos for 10 cents warrants a public crucifixion. Hail Thor-show thy might, Let thunder roar and lightning strike! " 1) Because of the growing disconnect it creates between what build guides and play advice columns consider cheap common gear and what legitimate players consider cheap common gear (look at high end runewords in Diablo 2 build guides for example). An RMT and hack based economy even manages to damage the community for self-found players. I already have one friend who loves watching build of the week but will never make a build from most of them because it would just be disappointing and/or useless without the quality of gear used in the video. 2) Because PoE has no offline mode. Legitimate players in Diablo 2 were free to play locally or on private servers and never encounter bots, or RMT spam whispers, or modified gear. The online requirement of PoE/D3 was for many undesirable but considered an acceptable sacrifice to combat cheating. So, now we're dragged into being reliant on GGGs success to continue playing a game. If Blizzard had stopped supporting Diablo 2 at some point over its reign, I doubt I or any of my friends who played it would have cared in the slightest so long as there was a web archive of the Arreat Summit saved. Why wouldn't the PoE community be more vocal? The PoE "community" is far more inclusive of those who don't toe the RMT line than the Diablo 2 "community" ever was. |

I posted in a thread OP made but I guess this one got more attention. After reading around reddit and have come to understand how GGG doesn't want to over glorify the people who do get banned. Rightfully so in a certain view.
I've played many F2P games that have had much more workforce to deal with the botting/hacking prevention aspects of the game. Needless to say, it's successful of eliminating programs but with F2P you have to remember you can make as many accounts as you want. With certain romanian VPN's via to VM's certain people with programming knowledge are free to further cause more work for GGG to fight against preventing further botting/hacking. I by no means want to sound as if I am a hacker which I am not, but coming from certain games and F2P communties with bigger budgets you notice that even with a limitless budget you cannot prevent it. It's very lucritive for hackers/coders/programmers - Most programmers do it out of free time and don't work for anybody simply they enjoy a challenge. Unfortunately PoE is set up where that challenge breeds profit. I remember in D2 the BHC was most notorious and although their programs would get mass ban waves, they would, succussfully, make a program that was undetectable. Within hours of Blizzard finding a way to detect and get loophole, they would post new V.1.05.1 (W/e) that they figured out how to inject/hook less or literally split second - these programs would rise and would notibly work without ban. D2 is an old game of course, newer games have problems with programs much sophisticated that have been out for over half a year that have yet to be stopped. (Tin-Foil hat moment maybe) I don't want to be negative I support GGG and regret if I have been negative or pushy in the last comment in thread (not sure how many this guy made) I agree with secrecy of GGG of mass ban waves and only ever replying with a streamer streaming it or video proof. eTc. It relays too much information to the coders/programmers although most only rely on the people abusing the system within the game of F2P or any P2P game - Those players will use the forums and anyone back in D2 days with BHC know that all the botters/MPH/Dupers that the grunt (Grunt being player who is just script kiddy, downloads - executes, reads the program and the ToS minimal of we are not to blame if banned, banning will happen, if banned you agree to this) Grunt relays to coder/programmer who will get the source code of the game and figure out a better program. It's depressing never ending cycle, GGG might one day slow it down but I rather not dwell on it and play being poor and MF days on end, then I take a break cause manual MF is rather tedious and boring. Then you get a GG drop and MF with less reward becomes less satisfying so you map some more. Playing self found if you worry about this too much on the impact of economy is only way to satsify your playing - or being ignorant and not coming to forums and just having real fun of the game. I still have fun. I have made mistake of coming to the forums ;) Where I'm born from in Russia, where most of coders come from anyways. They have conventions where coders/hackers alike come to compete for cash prizes 100,000$ + where government agencies - security firms - blah blah. Come to recruit them. Was thinking maybe GGG go to a convention maybe hire someone there. Being russian myself I know they could get potential talk and scope of figuring out how to further combat an ever going problem that won't get fixed permanently, just crippled. TLDR QQ Nyet nyet nyet, maybe people with coding/programming/hacking (cracking) can post with a bigger scope more detailed. Problem can get crippled, this problem is here to stay, maybe GGG solution is to make a code similiar with a contest ( similiar in sense very encrypted complex engine ) and have contests for people breaking their engine for them to gather analysis so their staff can further build a defense ed: To what I mean on conventions, go and talk to people with knowledge of code and free time, bring systems of same but veery different very different of course for people to compete to crack. Gather the data and use to improve efforts of course stay silent of mass bans (I think if anything, I would rather have MTX or my buying support packs have this outcomme, have the money for them to try atleast) Maybe it's too much work, if so someone who's more intelligent then I in this field just reply politely if it's lost cause or too much work. i lvl/farmed my ass of r 2 days, and my guildmate who is a bot got 80c (probably not counting "other" currency) and what do i got? less than fucking 10c, fucking unfair, so fucking un-fucking-fair
i got balls to play the game without exploits, and they beat me doing next to NOTHING, its a like a HUGE slap to my BALLS, it fucking hurts |

" Okay the bot doesn't do anything magical to get more loot, they just play more. Unless he farmed all 48 hours and got 80c and you farmed all 48 and got 10c then there is obviously a large difference in farming ability here. Even more so when bots just run piety or dom or docks or something. Also cheaters are almost in every game, need to chill out because your going to be disappointing. |
