ReverendBizzarre: Dual wield elemental cleave Templar guide [Always updated]

Alrighty tighty lets get to it then.

First off, im the creator of the elemental cleave builds, this started way back in closed beta when i made my shadow, Wytchfindergeneral, a character that had 10k es and 250k dps, you can see a video of that character in my signature. After open beta was released this character was extremely nerfed so i had to remake the whole cleave build and had to go life, so i chose the templar because its the best possible starting point. After i started this character a few streamers noticed me being the only high level melee in open beta that didnt rip every 15 seconds and it triggered quite a fad and im happy people still use it and like it.

Level 100:Passive skill tree build

Complete walkthrough

Spoiler
You start off as a basic sweep templar, you just get a random axe or maul 2h and sweep enemies and use heavy strike for rares and singles.

Build at around level 20:Passive skill tree build

Here you go for some dex nodes wherever you can and you can start using swords/axes with elemental damage.
Build at around level 40:Passive skill tree build

You continue as you are from there on, speccing and respeccing into however much dexterity you need from the +30dex nodes that are close by.
Build at around level 60:Passive skill tree build

Build at around level 80+:Passive skill tree build

Bandit rewards:
Spoiler
First time take Oak's +40 life

Second time take the reward from kraytine

Third time take the endurace charge from Oak.

Skill leveling:
Spoiler
Do not level cleave past level 5, leveling it only increases the mana cost but not the damage since this is an elemental build
Do not level whirling blades or leap slam, depending on your preference of travel, dont level it because mana cost increase and the bonus is just physical damage like cleave, which is useless for this build.

Level the rest to maximum level

Auras:
Spoiler
Use grace and Wrath linked to reduced mana, if you have enough armor and want more dps use Anger instead of grace, you will be able to run all 3 at higher levels

Cleave Links:
Spoiler
Cleave 4l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-Mana leech-Life leech

Cleave 5l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-mana leech(Or Bm)-concentrated effect-life leech

Cleave 6l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-mana leech(or BM)-concentrated effect-Life leech-Faster Attacks

Curses:
Spoiler
Use elemental weakness OR conductivity since the bulk of the damage is lightning, start and continue to use the curse you get your hands on first. Link the curse to reduced mana and youre ok

Totems
Spoiler
Use whatever totem you like best, i used a rejuvenation totem because i happened to get my hands on a 20% quality one, but you can use a spell totem linked to summon skeletons, a decoy totem, devouring totem, do whatever you like.

Gearing
Spoiler
This part is pretty obvious i think, just use evasion, armor, evasion/armor, evasion/es, or armor/es hybrids with decent life mods and decent resistance mods, its nice to have some attack speed or elemental damage on gloves.

The weapons have to be fast and with good elemental rolls, thats it.

As rings go, resistances and life comes first, then elemental damage, amulets the same, try to get your survivability sorted out first, you'll do enough damage anyway.

Belts, this is the place where you want some elemental damage % mod, try to get life and resistance on them too.

As weapons go use Axes or Swords with hgih attack speed and high elemental damage, nothing too fancy, you'll do big damage with almost anything that has some decent mods on it.As you can see the linked swords are mediocre and im doing 20k+ dps

There are no vital unqiues for this build, use wakes if you can afford to use them or those unqiue light damage gloves, you will give up resitance and life from a normal pair of boots.gloves, but you will gain quite a nice ammount of dps, but they are not all that important!

Flasks
Spoiler
Use: 2 Seething hallowed life flasks
1 panicked hallowed lifeflask
1 granite flask of iron skin
1 amethyst flask against chaos damage mobs if your chaos resistance is low, if its ok, then slap another Setthing hallowed life flask here or Quicksilver of adrenaline

General points to be made
Spoiler
This build also works in HC, just be careful on the elemental reflect mobs and thorns mobs, take them slowly.

Not very gear dependent, you can get to merciless with sub par gear.

You can kill monsters pretty fast, while you can also tank very well, with endurance charges up and a granite flask of iron skin you can get to 90% physical damage reduction.

You can use zombies or all kinda of goofy skills no one would imagine a build like this would be using because luckily enough you have enough stats for just about any skill :)

To effectively use enduring charges link enduring cry to a low level cast when damage taken support gem

You can do any maps, just dont cast your % auras when you go in a BM maps or else you're gonna have a bad time

VIDEOS
Spoiler
Level 67 map High dps gearhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edpRhlO18KY&feature=youtu.be

level 67 map tankier gear:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSfKSAzonW0&feature=youtu.be

Sorry for the shit quality, i had to compress them by a lot to be able to upload them faster!!

Post any questions you have or your current status on this build in this thread so i can respond to them easily and quickly. If you have any videos of your ele cleaver doing maps that you want to share just post them here and i'll add them to the video section with your name stapled to them.

I will happily respond

PS: This build also works great with Rain of Arrows, just replace cleave with the gem and thats it, youre going to do quite amazing dps with it.

Well, like i thought in the another thread, mine is very similar.

Few thoughts i have regarding the differences of our builds:

Inner force: anger and wrath double their effect with cleave, so also inner force gets doubled. So 30% increase to auras goes up to 60% increase. The dps boost is awesome.

Soul siphon: One of the really awesome things with cleave is the mana cost. 21 mana with 5 link for an aoe attack. Pretty much 1-3 shot mobs (now in merciless act3) and with soul siphon i get 25 mana back for each killed enemy. No need for mana leech gem --> could use culling strike for more dps or IIQ/IIR or life leech for added defences.
I happened to get +12 mana from kills on my gear (which i rather changed into something more useful) so not running out of mana that easily. For bosses i use instant mana flask, that fills my mana completely every use.

Both of these are ofcourse increases to dps, which aren´t that necessary for this build because the dps is nice to begin with. Also travelled to the starting area of shadow for +24% att.speed and some life.

Gear: This build is really flexible with gear.
My main goal is to get as much flat elemental mods on rings, amulet and gloves. This is because the flat elemenetal values get doubled to cleave.

On weapons i intend to get %weapon elemental and att.speed mods and on top of that 1-2 flat ele mods (could be crafted "easily" with regals). This is because as far as i know, the %weapon elemental damage on weapons also apply to the other weapons damage, the flat ele values do not.

Chest, boots and helm can be purely defensive (unless i get my hands on wakes too). I use ES gear with +life rolls on them. So far not very lucky with gear drops. (2,1k life and 900 ES)

But yeah. Pretty solid build =)

When would you suggest switching from the 2h/sweep to cleave as a main ability? Somewhere in the 20-40 range?

yes, thats about when you have enough points to spec into a bit of dexterity so you can wield whatever swords or axes come your way, you can also use a jade amulet if you dont have enough dex.

have you considered going marauder tree because it is easy to access diamond skin and trolls blood.in my opinion it is not worth going in mid tree hp regen nodes

what you think about blood magic you could drop mana leech gem then.

I would still need to go to the middle of the tree for the elemental damage and life there, and getting celestial walker would be too many points also.

With bloodmagic i couldnt use auras such as purity or vitality when they are needed because reserving a % of your life is a bad idea, also the mana reservation of auras is pretty high now so i would lose a nasty amount of life.

Yeah. Cleave can be a bid deceptive with its hit chance.

I had 75% hit chance, but i didn´t mind it because missing wasn´t an issue.

Cleave actually misses if both hits miss, so with 75% chance to hit, the actual chance to miss is only 25%^2=6,25%

But only hitting with one of the weapons really lowers the dps way more than i thought.

Really nice to have your build as a reference point. They are similar, but yet different.

"I only use cleave, no reason for me to use a single target attack since i dont have the links nor will i do more dps."

So it's not possible to get Dual Strike to do better? (I'm pretty new to the game)
