[3.1] GLADIATOR 1H+Shield Max Block&Spell Block Tank + a BoR version

Without reading through hundreds of pages of questions and updates, could someone kindly provide a TL;DR on the differences between this build and the one found here: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1647240

Seems to be the same concept and skill usage unless I'm missing something? I'm more interested in uber lab farming and so not sure which one I'd pick

You don't need to. It's actually a bit hard to get higher dps with varunastra, and that's the only reason to do it.

Surrender might actually be better. A bit less implicit block chance, but I would really like to try it. Trying to get my hands on one in Breach.

Is there a way to increase the boss dps of this build? I used to play this build and always loved it, but with a lot of mods and/or on higher maps bosses just take ages as they dont seem to take damage at all.

It says that the build is updated for 2.5, but the new shield is not discussed, as well as blade flurry. Wouldnt both be worth trying out/using?
