Vaal Oversoul on Merciless

I just attempted this boss on my lvl 60 Witch, died about 4 times in total of which 3 times were due to falling rocks which practically 2-shot me at 1500 hp (and then got disconnected to boot after losing nearly half a level in exp). It seems to me, that these rocks do a bit too much damage when you're not having a high armor value, but I'm interested in hearing what others think about it.

EDIT: Guys, this thread is 2 weeks old... I've long since passed on and completed merciless, lvl 75 Witch currently.

As for the people saying they had way more HP at that level or that you need 3k HP by that time, I'd like to remind you how the starting class in combination with the amount of strength said class accumulates, greatly impacts how much HP you get along the way.

It was also default league, not HC, which means I didn't just go for HP only as is mandated in HC, yet I didn't ignore it either since I had taken about 12 HP nodes at the time of making this thread.

I'm lvl 50 and have 1700-1800hp
plus i always have a granite with me and as soon as I see rocks falling I pop it right away.
Havent had a problem so far but I'm guessing MERCILESS Vaal might be just the thing to kill me :)

Hmm, totally forgot about those Granite Flasks, I think I'll give it a shot. This is also the first time I died so much at a boss haha. Thanks for your input. :)

get 2 movement flasks + Granit + 2 Life Flasks.

Pop the movement flasks as soon as the rock phase started.

Its not that hard if you got enough mana/reg to kill him with enough movement flasks and a granite.

Also u may facetank him instead of kiting.
U wont get hit by the rocks if you facetank him.
Theres no different between kiting and facetanking, since u only need to dodge the ground slam.

Seething Flasks are almost mandatory later on if you use life. They're instant (lower) heals and provide the much needed burst heal in critical moments. Do try to pick one up or craft your own :)
I found those instant healing flasks of much use indeed. Thanks for the pointers guys!

1500 hp in merciless seems REALLY low to me (although I play hardcore so I'm more defense oriented). I'm rocking roughly 1500 hp and roughly 1900 ES on my cold witch at lvl 56 while I farm fellshrine for some better gear before moving on. Getting a few more levels and putting them into some defensive nodes could help you out a bit better.

But, as others have suggested: Granite Flask and Instant flasks can help a lot for the rocks.

Get a blank hallowed life flask, burn 4 glassblowers on it, roll it into a bubbling life flask, PROFIT.

What exactly do u need the movement flasks for vs vaal?
the rocks fall randomly as far as i know, so its not about moving fast, its about pumping up your defenses in case it does fall on you
also the beam can be easily avoided by moving around, even if u have the lowest movement speed, so I don't see why you should use a mov. flask, let alone 2.

I say 1 or 0 quicksilver (just in case u get caught in the cold groud, or see him do the fire attack and need to move fast), 2 soothing life flasks, 1 or 2 granites and 1 normal life flask.

One way to minimize the chance of getting hit is by standing right where a teammate is, that way if a rock falls on you guys, only 1 will get hit
Does it change in merciless? In normal the rocks only fall in the outer area, if you stand at mid-range or up close they never hit you. I just killed it on my bow witch last night and never got hit by a rock, and I would stop moving when it was bringing them down to use as a safe time to concentrate fire.
At least you're not melee...
