It's absolutely no coincidence that these characters are all level 35, it's more than simply just multiboxing for the fun it.

Level 35 is what you need to enter merciless, these 5 characters will be boosted through all the quests so they can enter a high level zone or map with the owner who can then get 250% item quantity bonus for being in a group of six all to himself.

people cant possible bot/multibox effectively in HC, and as such, i avoid default like a plague

Where exactly have you seen discrimination? The people pointing that this is most likely multiboxing and not botting as your title mentions? You're against the idea of one person being able to multibox? That's totally fine. Is GGG against it? That's probably the question you should ask and why. If indeed those are bots, then you have legitimate grounds but from that screenshot alone, such a conclusion cannot be clearly reached. As people have pointed, multiboxing does not equal botting.

I think that one of the devs mentioned some time ago that multiboxing is only ok as long as there no kind of automation involved at all, which is very unlikely in most cases where someone is controlling more than two chars at once.
(Im not saying that it is absolutely impossible to effectively control more than two chars without automation but i dont think there are as many people being able to do that as there are multiboxers.)

Yet, we have to remember that this is still a beta and there are most like more important things to do for now than solving that issue. At least in my persnal opinion i would prefer the devs to invest their time in making the game even better for everyone playing it instead of focussing on fighting those players breaking the rules.

People are forgetting that the game was patched to make multiboxing more difficult.

People now have to take care of the spare accounts they are hauling along with them, otherwise they die.

If someone can effectively take care of 5 different characters, while also taking on mobs meant for 6 people, then by all means let them.

This would only be viable in softcore anyway, as the difficulty of keeping spare chars alive would be too much.

And we all know softcore will be the bottom feeder of all the leagues to come.

Not disagreeing with you, but I wonder how many of those who have tried multiboxing in PoE have first leveled a character to end game levels and played maps? Specifically some of the top players who create the build's other people copy. It seems possible that with enough forethought and planning, a build could be specifically designed to fulfill the necessary role, perhaps a dual totem summoner design that is very heavy on passive defenses and auras?

The toughest part to me would seem to be solving the issue with PoE not having a /follow command, although there might be some creative ways around that. Oddly enough, although I find it an unethical practice, it's an interesting intellectual challenge.
