Will PoE be more rewarding if we had [CRAFTING PROGRESSION]?

Reading some of Crackmonster comments on Athene vs Chris ITW thread and other threads, the idea of poe is not rewardig enough became little by little making sense. Don't you think?

What if we had characters gaining crafting skills or -levels-, the more you fuse/jewel.. the more you gain knowledge or skill.

Easy to integrate into PoE lore: just implement a new NPC in act1 or 2 or maybe 4. He could be a descendant from a very respected oriath family or some well known forgers-warrior, it's the crafter guy.

This will solve Qarl's problem about characters reaching level 40-50 with lack of 4L items, how?

By crafting and leveling you gain crafting skills, at the end your char would have a much higher chance to 5L, 100% chance to 4L, better chance to 6S.

Crafting skill progression would continue with this revolutionary idea i had:

Are you bored of rares+uniques(bosses) farming? Let's have some extra crafting levels, these ones are gained by killing rare+unique monsters. So even when you don't get good drops you are having progression.
Basically, acquire +1-5% chance to 6L. +1-10% to chance uniques.


What do we have now?
Get rewards when you do not successfully craft an item(and when you do)
Get rewards when you do not find fine drops during your farmings(and when you do).

Do you think guys we need more and better rewards?

Interesting.


BUT, I agree, something like Crafting Level would be very good.
Not only for linking items but for enchanting the items instead of gambling and wasting a lot of currency.

Though, some may not agree haha.

Not a bad idea... Maybe crafting levels merely remove the bottom tier (2/3/4/x tiers) being rolled on high level items, or something like that.

There's probably one reason or another why this is a horrible idea, and I'm sure someone will come along and point that out soon enough, but I wouldn't mind a little extra incentive to use orbs.

Problem with crafting skill is that the skill will benefit those who are already expert crafters, ie long time players/crafters/traders who are already rich.

You don't see new or recent players crafting much do you? because at the end of the day, the crafting matts are too expensive (ET for 2.5-3ex in Standard wtf) for these players.

Adding another requirement on top does not encourage crafting.

It's a problem as you see it because extra crafting levels(the most important ones) require farming rares+uniques monsters, and everyone can do this weither he is already rich or not. crafting 4L and stuff come early level 1-65 and only when crafting (using some fus+jewels)

Of course I agree we need better rewards.

I have never crafted anything since I started playing in Feb 2013, other than a yolo here and there of the loot I picked up.

Now I really want to craft a 6L chest, which I have an ilvl 79 6L base already.

But I'm hesitant to continue because:
1) RNG, not sure how much currency is required
2) ET is now 3ex each on Standard, which makes 1) even more uncertain, do I need 10 Et, 20, 30? and so on
3) reward, can I buy something cheaper instead?

Also with crafting, I think it comprises of 3 areas of RNG:
1) get the right mods.
Crafting chest is probably easier because the number of possible prefixes & suffixes are smaller compared to weapons etc, but still you need to hope that RNG gives you the right mods you want, without breaking the bank, or cost more than just buying the ready made product off another player
2) get the right mods AND the right tier mod
Again, more RNG, and there are like 5-6 tiers of mods!!!
3) 6L
I don't need to say more on this one, RNG is RNG


So my 6L chest base is still sitting there while I farm the alts to craft it, and spam trade chat hoping someone would actually sell me some damn ETs at reasonable prices.

One time I saw a guy advertising on forum, selling ETs for 3ex each or 2.8ex each in bulk, and he had 145 ETs! Screw traders!

I think the easiest way to improve crafting is limit the range of tier mods you get relating to ilvl.

At the moment, in order to get the top mods, you need an ilvl 78 item (correct me if I'm wrong), BUT there is NO lower limit on what tier mods you can get!

So if GGG adds a lower limit on the tier mods you can get, and maybe even remove some of the useless mods like reflect damage to attacker, or lower attribute requirement stuff off the mods list, that would make crafting so much more enjoyable and actually rewarding to attempt by more players.

Anyways, if you change the crafting thing, then the currency used for crafting also needs to be balanced as well, as easier crafting will just lead to more demand for the mats, and the mats will become more expensive.

One change that I would like to see is a Item Level limited version of crafting orbs. Basically a version of the exalt/regal orb that can only be used on items with an iLevel < 60
