Lock.Unlock account... a joke?
What about my account beeing locked every time my dynamic IP changes? Is this a new feature? i do not find it funny. I find it a huge fail. Having to visit my mail account for the unlock code every time I load Poe? get serious :P

It's a security feature to prevent hacking. If the system thinks that someone from elsewhere than your usual location attempts to access your account, it locks it. If you get a code every time, your ISP's IP range is too big for GGG's system. :-D
Anyway, you can email Support and ask to have security features manually changed or disabled. :-) Exit, pursued by a Plummeting Ursa.

I guess like mine, most countries run on dynamic IPs. I always got the 'reenter password' once a day, but this 'unlock code sent to email' is new stuff which seems so impractical. Never met an account defense system that asks user to check their email every time he tries to log in. Maybe it should be changed with a keyfile or something.

the system is the same that many email providers and even steam use, the difference is that it's far stricter on IP changes.
It's also a system thats been in place since the end of February 2013. You can alternatively use steam to play the game and use steams security or you can contact support via email to see what they can offer. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

Never got an email verification request before in poe. Always asked anew for my password while logging in at times that my IP had changes. But no. Never had my account locked. Accounts are locked in serious situations. First time i met a locked account cause of ip change... Something was changed today.

" nothing was changed today, the IP locking has been the same way since it was implemented almost a year ago, check the hundreds of QQ threads about it. And as far as i know a IP change outside the accepted criteria would lock the account, if it was not locked it would not ask you to re enter the password unless you have a problem with the game not saving the password(if you use the remember feature) or you dont have the remember feature on and are entering the password wrong. If anything has changed it would likely be that your dynamic IP has been allocated address which is outside what it normally gets and triggered the lock Ancestral Bond. Owh man, let me add a trusted computer then!
If I'm logging in from a different computer THEN look at the stupid IP address. I thought the devs would be smart enough to make it optional by now, it's a huge pain getting the code from my email each day. |

You can always email Support and have your account's security features changed/disabled. At your own risk of course.

" The unlock code is only required when the geolocation has changed. If you always got IPs in the same country/region/city, then it would only ask you to re-enter your password and not provide an unlock code. If you happened to get an IP that was registered in a different nearby city, it asks for the unlock code to make sure you are you. You might have just been lucky before and never were allocated an IP outside of your current city. Where I am, I get IPs for 3 different regions.. often. It's not that big of a deal. As others have said, you can disable this through an email to support, but trust me that you'd rather log into Path of Exile and be greeted with an "unlock" dialog than to log into Path of Exile and be greeted with an empty account. It's 30 seconds longer to unlock your account with an unlock code. I don't think that is unreasonable for the security and safety it provides. Especially if your email is secured with a 2-factor authentication system. That makes it impossible really for hackers to get into your Path of Exile account even if they KNOW both of your passwords (which happens more often than you might think). If you use gmail as your email provider for your Path of Exile account, you get the added benefits of not only having an awesome 2-factor authentication system, but GGG themselves use gmail as an email provider so the emails from them are delivered instantly (before I can alt-tab to my email to retrieve the unlock code). I leave my gmail up and alt-tab to it, and the unlock code is sitting there waiting for me. It takes me 5 whole seconds to unlock my account and get into the game. Again, I don't think that's unreasonable for the security it provides, and it certainly beats logging into a stripped account wouldn't you agree? |

Most of the ISP use dynamic IP and many of them are shared across a larger region.
Just add an option to disable the location check. How hard is that? It's one option in the preferences and in "IF" check. |
