The game rocks but the Instance reset time irritates me
I love this game. It ticks a lot of boxes for me.
There is one killer issue for me though... The instance reset time. It is too short and within short time it added 20 minutes of redoing stuff I just did, and I hate that. First one; take portal to pools and streams, dispose of Oak and go look for waterfall cave. Take some time to find it (the areas are quite big as well). Enter the cave, do some trips to vendor of blues in my time spent there and just before I clear it I get hammered by some big bear or whatever it was. Resurrect into town, take the portal to pools and streams and I get presented a reset P&S area so I can run around again to relocate the waterfall entrance (happily I was quick enough to have that one not reset). A while later, get through the pyramid, kill Vaal for the first time (one death) and get a lot of nice little items. I pick up half, portal to town, vendor of the stuff and then our baby wakes to get fed; I drop her off at her mom, go the restroom come back 10 minutes later and gone is my portal. Since I didn't finish the quest yet I can redo the whole pyramid again before I can enter act 3 and I lose half the items that were still on the floor. I immediately hit Alt-F4 and quit the game (for today). I'm probably not the only one that gets regular short distractions while playing (which is also the reason I usually play solo). An extended toilet break, laundry, making food and getting a phone call, etc., all can easily last long enough (how long is it anyway) to reset an area or make your portal magically disappear. I also understand that there is probably a good reason to this, but can't you be creative and make it work better? This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

I would guess lengthening reset time would hammer the servers pretty hard.

" I don't see how, it's just a file that's saved, it could be there forever and not matter. |

I agree with the OP. This game is really fun and I get it's not really meant to be easy, but those resets are just stupid. Sometimes you even reset when changing mp3s. What's even worse is getting all those timeouts and kicks and having to redo everything after that. I found it rather impossible to progress in acts today. I for example had to replay the barracks about 10 times today when the servers started crashing.

Yeah, this annoyed me too. It's not as bad as Borderlands 2, where enemies would literally start respawning at the beginning of the dungeon as you were almost done clearing out the dungeon's final enemies; still, it can be annoying.

They could possibly add an option to pause the game during single player sessions and when the game is paused it would indeed store a copy of the game session somewhere and unload your instance from the server to free up capacity for other players until you return and choose to return to the game.
When returning to the game the server would check for and if found, load your paused session and allow you to continue from where you left off. Computer specifications:

Option 1: Storing a copy of the game session locally (on the players computer) would allow for tampering/cheating that shouldn't occur.
Option 2: Storing a copy of the game session on the parent (on the server computer) would take up a great deal of space, raising the costs for running the servers. Option 3: Storing a copy of the game session locally, but implement safety checkpoints into the server while it loads the files. This would still increase server costs, but less so. However, this would take a lot of development work to get functioning in a way that ensures game security and server stability. Option 4: Ignore it, and move faster. This problem bothers me too, but sometimes you just have to suck it up. |

It is indeed very diffcult to progress in a dungeon due to this reset times. For example: You take you time in a dungeon to find the entrance to lvl 2, even try to take it fast to find the waypoint or the boss there and suddenly you get hammered down. Of course you had no time for a townportal because you really do not have a lot of them and no hotkey to use one in emergency - and then you get back in the dungeon and find yourself in the fog of war again. Simply awesome and damn annoying. The only positive thought is "Hey. Some more exp." Happend to me alot. Last time in the crematorium - fun place to visit often.
I totally understand we are in an open beta and the servers are under more load than in the closed one (who didn´t see that coming) but what the heck is wrong with that reset time and this stupid disconnects. Not talking about server crashes. And please, do some about the TP´s. More drops or a one to one trade with scrolls of wisdom. |

" One to one trade would ruin the idea somewhat, 1:2 is probably better for portals:wisdom. However just allowing us to purchase more than one portal scroll at a time would be nice, as I have found it annoying to purchase them one at a time. I have alsoo had bad experiences with instance resets, I'm not sure how much load this incurs on the servers, however increasing the timer to say 12-15 minutes for side areas would be nice, as currently 8 minutes is not always enough, especially in multi-level dungeons. Also a hotkey for portal scrolls would be incredibly useful I believe. |

yea dude i totally agree with u. this game is really killer but sometimes i get pissed off cuz of the map being resetted. it would be helpful to let them stay a little longer so that this harassment after dying and having to do some other stuff will end.
stay a while and listen
