When a great item finally drops!

Random ARPG:
1. Bow of Whoopass finally drops.
2. "OMFG!!!"
3. Equip it immediately.
4. Kick so much ass it's not funny.

Path of Exile:
1. Voltaxic Rift finally drops.
2. "OMFG!!!"
3. Stash it immediately.
4. Abandon everything you were doing in-game, start doing bossruns for alt/chaos recipe.
5. Spam trade chat all day: "WTB fusings"
6. One month later, Voltaxic Rift still in stash.
7. Repeat 4 & 5.
8. Six months and 500 fusings later, Voltaxic Rift still in stash and unusable.
9. Repeat 4 & 5.
10. One year and 1000 fusings later, Voltaxic Rift still in stash and unusable.
11. Break down and decide to sell everything you own for more fusings.
12. Spam trade chat all day: "WTS 10 exalts, need fusings"
13. Still no 6L.
14. "Fuck this."
15. Uninstall.

Why not buy a 6-link armor with your 500 fusings?

If I ever find a Voltaxic, I just 4link it like usual, save tons of currency, still have fare more DPS than I ever had before and play happily. ;)
6l is heavily overrated, abandon this weird fetish.

4l isnt that good, but all 5l are good enough to kick balls and reach lvl 100 :)

6L is not meant to be an easily achievable goal, you are supposed to know that when you're at the point where you can get a voltaxic yourself, 5L would have been more than enough.
You fault for expecting too much honestly, aim for 5L.

This thread could use a bit less QQ but the OP has a point. Once you get to "endgame" the amount of time you have to put into chest or 2 hander upgrades to get them usable is quite daunting. The classic get upgrade->equip it arpg loop is broken in these cases.

I'm not sure if something like a socket and link transfer orb would be good for the game though, as it would make any 6 link item too valuable (and obviously things like tabula rasa would have to be omitted from being used).

The problem is a product of the link system GGG chose, and there are probably no really good solutions that fix all the problems and still lets GGG keep 6 links extremely rare.

Edit: But OP forgot to mention that post-EZ 4 link patch, this is noly a problem for CHESTS and TWO HANDED WEAPONS. It's no wonder why bringer of rain block builds are so popular when the aegis + one hander variations give you tremendous power without any of the rng stipulations or currency sinks of a chest or two hander.

GGG just needs to accept the fact that the current difficulty in making your own 6l just isn't fun and needs to be easier. That fact doesn't have anything to do with being entitled or not 'hardcore' enough, it just isn't fun by any stretch of the word.
