I used this build as a Newbie and very much enjoyed it up until around 50 when things just kind of got out of control. Gear became extremely important contrary to your words and faster attacks was a green gem with dex req that I just didn't have following your passive tree. It was a fun build and I learned a lot following it, but speaking as someone who was a newbie when they ran your build I found that following it to the letter just wasn't viable after hitting 50.

Disagree with you. This is my first ever character and I am currently 72 and facerolling Catacombs until level 81. All you need is a decent 2H a phy % and just focus on life on the rest of your gear. This build really works for new players. I soloed all content in merciless, only have Dominus left.

How can you follow the guide religiously as far as skill gems goes when you need dex for some of the gems? His guide only has on dex node. So we would need a lot of dex from gear to follow it religiously.

hi there!

thanks a lot for the guide, working out really great for a beginner (lvl42 now).
i am though not sure if i should go this route, or the build suggested in "The Infernal Blow HEAVY METAL Marauder - Full Build Guide [UPDATED for 1.0.0]". So far the spec is pretty much the same and i leveled also the gems for both.

I enjoy playing both so far, and thought that maybe some1 with experience could give me input on late-game viability on both builds?

Personally I would suggest to use this build instead of the Heavy Metal Marauder for one simple reason : Ground Slam give you a safe distance from your enemies.

So late game you don't need to have items that are as good as the other build.

I just got to the Unwavering Stance node and I was wondering if it's really worth it, it seems that the damage that I take increased by a lot.

I just finished Act 2 Vaal, and had some scary moment in the pyramid, my gear is not that great since I'm still using some non-armor stuff.

And my passives as of lvl 27.

I'm a bit scared about progressing on Act 3 now.

I wouldn't get unwavering until merciless or the end of cruel. I think you really need decent armor to make it work.

my build around 27 http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgEAAecZLhpVJ-026FBQVElXDVhjXz9ko3KpfNmMz57NpzCsqrndxtjSIdSP2WHnUu8O8i_2SPe-

I couldn't see your build at all btw. Bad Link.

You could go ahead and grab blood magic instead of heading so far right first. But, I wanted to wait until I had a higher damage weapon for life leech to offset costs. Also, I prioritize health/regen more than damage. I'm ~40 now and have just started getting the damage nodes. The build for me didn't really shine until I had 4 link gloves and armor. The damage from the physical multiplier and added fire damage is quite noticeable. I 2 hit mobs 4+ levels above me and only come to dying during desyncs. I have quit my summoner and abandoned my sporker for this build.

I don't know what to tell you. I have more than enough dex from self found gear and vendor amulets. Also, you REALLY don't even need a single point of dex to get to level 81. Faster attacks is by no means necessary. I am currently not using it because I don't have a green socket on my gear.

To Sothpaw my concern is that if you do follow the OP's plan religiously then what could happen is that you might end up giving up important mods like life or resists just to get the dex needed to use faster attack.

Instead I have decided to use a plan made by someone else here in this thread that is back some pages. I like it because it is the type of marauder that I was looking for. I am certain that with that plan and some help from getting extra dex on gear, which will not take much I will have all of the dex that I need to use faster attack for at least the two main attacks.
These are my stats with and w/o any gear, and my skill tree:
I haven't taken any +30dex nodes or anything, except for the three +10Dex nodes i had to take to get to IR...

w/o any gear on : 362/64/24

With current gear: 419/145/100

Faster Attacks require 109dex for lvl20.

Hi. I'm following this guide and I was pretty happy with it until yesterday. But, I reached general gravicius in cruel and I die before I even take his shield down...most of his damage is fire and I have 75 fire resist, dunno what's going on here...

I'm level 50 and my stats are:

1800 hp, 75 fire res, 60 cold res, 70 lightning res, 1900 dps on heavy strike and 1000 dps on ground slam.

I kite with totems, use flasks, keep endurance charges up but no matter what I do I die.

I'm in domination league and I don't think I have enough currency to buy anything useful. I don't know how to link my gear here, sorry for that.

What should I do now? I'm basically stuck in that quest, and I don't want to do it with a group, it's pointless if my char can't do it himself.

Nice setup, I'm going for a little variation of the template build myself. I was just wondering why do you take the 4 strength nodes path north of the starting point when you can complete the path by taking the 2 strength nodes down by Unwavering stance. It seems to me that would net you 2 free points so you can get amplify or some such
