[Build Idea] Chaos damage Build (with Flameblast)

since you dont need elemental curses at all for chaos damage, you could go with:
conductivity+
Q20 added lightning + arc + spell totem +proliferation to add shocked status to mobs while you are channelling, will boost your damage by an additional 90%more multiplier.

so at base you would be (with conc) at 1.9*9.9*1.69=~ 32 multiplier before calculating %increases.

let's say a bare minimum of 100%spell damage from equip, and another 100%from tree, that would mean 96times the chaos gem as damage or:

(161+242)/2*96= ~19k chaos damage. not bad, but not spectacular either for a long channel

How would you sit there and channel without ending up bloody poopstain on the floor, especially without leech? If you can really do this much damage with power charges and gems alone, wouldn't it be possible to make it into a build that favors survivability or summoning or do you really need passives other than power charge ones to boost that mediocre base crit chance? I am looking at this and all I see is "free damage"

I saw one build that was using cold snap+ele prolif to hold groups in place while charging.

With FP you can half the damage with GMP and shotgun it for a total of 250% DE (50%*5).

So your actual comparison would be 0.6s flameblast with 105% DE (50*[1+1.1]) vs 0.65s freezing pulse with 250% DE.

That's disingenuous. With flameblast you can use dps multiplier gems too, for example concentrated effect. You can't compare FP supported with an unsupported flameblast and expect it to be a fair comparison.

Lets see, for flameblast you have Conc Effect. RF and PA applies to both skills so I will not include them. My bad for forgetting about CE.

105*1.69 = 177.45%

177.45% DE per 0.6s vs 250% DE per 0.65s.

...yea?

EDIT: Additionally, it is easier to build around crit for FP, and with Added Lightning as well (FP-GMP-Added Chaos-Added Lightning) you can get a DE of 385% on a crit (50(+1st shock) + 65(+2nd shock) + 80 (+3rd shock) + 95 + 95). You don't really have a similar mechanic to take advantage of for flameblast, as far as I know.

This was confirmed here.

So on a crit, not counting crit multipliers (AKA just effects of shock stacks):

177.45% DE vs 385% DE on crit
177.45% DE vs 250% DE on non-crit

So is a crit-based build with this skill bad? If yes, what makes it so?

The long channeling time makes going crit highly inconsistent. I wouldn't feel comfortable going crit unless I had an 80-85% crit rate, which is pretty rough on a 6% crit spell. If there was some sort of indication while you're channeling if the attack was going to be a crit or not, that would be different, but as it is you'll be fishing for crits, spending 2-3 seconds per try. Not a problem on white mobs who you can probably kill without a crit, but on rares and bosses a 50% crit rate could mean anywhere from one cast to crit to four casts to crit, and you'll be needing multiple crits if your damage is going to be this low.

I have a shadow doing something bretty similar with incinerate.
I was excited about this build until I saw the 50% Damage effectiveness. :(
HAIL SATAN!
