False Sense of Entitlement

Why do some people that have spent money on this game feel entitled to bash free users?

No idea, some people are just pricks, welcome to life. The /ignore function works great for such occasions. Conversely, I've been bashed by free users for supporting GGG. Did I report them? No. Did I complain or whine about it? No. They're entitled to their opinion and I'm entitled to support GGG. :D
Make no mistake. If you are poisonous to the community, you are PROBABLY a freeloader. That's fine. Being a freeloader is fine, but acting in a rude manner isn't. It just so happens that Gold Members, Diamond Members, Silver Members, Bronze Members, and many supporters are far less likely to be rude than freeloaders. There really is no arguing with this fact.
It happens man. Dont let it get to you. Most of us are pretty cool people :D

If anything I would argue these people have a greater sense of entitlement than any free player with those types of attitudes. Hell I've probably been guilty of it myself at times and its not like i do it purposely. Its hard not to feel a sense of entitlement when you have given a hundred bucks in support of this game. But we supporters cant forget in this flood of new people that we need to lead by example. If we answer every silly request, idea , criticism or whatever with resentment, anger and with implications that our opinion counts more we are only fueling the fire. debate ideas as you agree or disagree but leave things like wealth and social status out of it. We are all equals here lets not forget that and treat people with a little dignity and respect. I find if you do they often return the favor.

Less likely, yes, but I think it sticks in people's minds more when people with big titles under their names act like gits. :( It's kind of a case of one or two bad apples leaving a nasty impression.

It's a real shame, really.

Like any online game, you have to take the good with the bad. So far, the community has been mostly good. Report them or ignore them and move on. People are just frustrated with the patching and whatnot, it WILL settle back down. Enjoy the game!
I think it happens because some of the new users complain in a harsh and direct manner about some things they dont like.
Those who are here for a longer time and therefore are more likely to have a beta-status may be annoyed by these posts because they already konw GGG and the whole community always try their best to push this game to awesomeness.

I've been playing since a few days into CB (that was back in September 2011 or thereabouts). Every other person you bumped into was a friend of a developer or a hand picked previous alpha member. I got in on the random counter and upon being selected had 2 or 3 messages from other users congratulating me.

Believe me, it was a very different time. Everyone in the game felt privileged to be there, everyone that wasn't in the game was soaking up every scrap of information they could. The community in game was rich, filled with ex diablo II hardcores and regulars, it was an astounding community of a few thousand people tops.

The playerbase was something we discussed in global way back in 2011 and everyone was in agreement as far as it certainly decreasing in quality. We were somewhat of the mindset that Diablo III would be such a big piece of content that people would regularly play it come OB launch (pahahaha, how wrong we were).

I'm waffling. The point being that older players (in terms of join date) that have invested time and money feel far more connected to the game. It bothers me when I see people asking questions I could've answered nearly two years ago with just a quick skim of the site. These people literally looked no further into the game than the download link where people before them spent days trying to grab a key from tweets and the like.

It just boils down to noobs kicking down the door to the game without preparation and asking stupid, stupid questions that they should've looked up the answer to before even downloading the client.

As for people that have bought packs? Well they have supported the company financially whereas those who have not bought a pack/points have not. At the end of the day if you don't buy anything you're a financial burden and it no doubt annoys people that want to see this game succeed.

TLDR: Elitism only becomes apparent when fools and noobs pay no attention to the ample knowledge available on the website. Hating on someone who has not bought micro points is childish and stupid but I can understand why people are very vocal about supporting GGG. This project cannot exist without funding.
some people are new to the game and already cry about everything.

that pisses off many people (including me :p)
cause they believe they can? :P

seriously now. Those that gave money to the beta and bash the new free players are the worst trolls.
When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

i'm not sure i agree with this.

to be fair there is not a lot of handholding within the game. there's barely a tutorial, and lets be honest the game can be complex in a multitude of ways.

i'm happy for people to ask questions, even ones you might determine are stupid (are bows melee ?, where is my kiwi?, how do i get past the tree roots?) because at least they are engaging with the game in an immediate manner.

i'm not happy for people to bitch and complain about how everything sucks because they had to wait a tiny bit to get the game and patch downloaded. that's pure immaturity, and ignorance and the game community would always be better without it.

as for the financial burden part... that way waaaaaay off the mark.

* the game only works if many people play and enjoy it.
* if they contribute to the game it gets better for everyone
* contributions arent limited to being $ only
