Yeah, I guess it is a first-world problem, and that people sitting on thousands of GGG points are the only ones who have been insulted by this. People who were collecting all the effects should just stop now and return all their GGG points because they will never accomplish their goal now that it is impossible.

What I want is for PoE to remain pure, while at the same time providing avenues for the supporters of the game to feel virtually rewarded. If I sound entitled, it's because I am entitled as a paying customer. The promise of microtransaction points did not say that they would be worthless sometimes, and I never read that promotional mtxs were sold by third parties.
they are kind of ugly anyway,

Yeah, I was going to collect all the time limited MTX which are not part of a pack (such as the Helloween microtransactions). I guess I can stop this quest now? :/
Disregard witches, aquire currency.
oh for the love of god , the fucking masks are pretty damn cheap if you use the market place.

the first 3 tiers are under 5 dollars and only tier 4 - 6 are even remotely pricey

if you want them , steam is easy as hell to download and use.
if you hate steam then dont get them.

steam exclusive promos are common place , they will happen whether people like it or not ,

just be grateful that it is steam , steam is huge and the more exposure a game gets on it ... the better

To be honest, i'm a little annoyed by the fact that, after purchasing a survivor supporter pack, i received the portal effects on steam by buying something random. These effects, in my opinion, should have been kept only on the packs offered for sale, not for anyone that is not directly supporting POE.

Wait what, you received a portal effect from Steam?
If this is just a Steam Card, i retract the above. Don't care much for the steam "collector`s game". Here's a screen shot

I wish I were sitting on thousands of GGG points, especially with the stash tab sale coming up. Maybe Charan Claus will visit my account this Christmas season.

I'm going to respond to a few things here because it's my Steam account selling the Azure mask in Ionface's first post.

Firstly, I need to explain that I work in marketing, and as such my view on this kind of activity is coloured by my professional work. Secondly, like Ionface, I've bought a lot of GGG points, and I enjoy collecting microtransactions.

My first view of this kind of thing is that it's a really positive thing, sure, the artificial scarcity is a bit shitty, but that results in higher prices for these items, and GGG get a cut of any sale made through Steam's marketplace on these items. That means that people will keep trading these items, and they'll provide a continued revenue stream for GGG, albeit a small one.

If this goes well, and I hope it does, I could well see GGG adopting a more TF2-like microtransaction system, which lets players trade those items with one another for real money, particularly if GGG can control that market on their own site and get a decent %. More importantly, I think that would be a positive move for GGG's bottom line, and that would result in more content for us gamers.

BUT. In what way is that artificial scarcity any different to the existing Supporter packs? The people with Kiwis will always have them, and tough shit if you never put any money into the game at that point in time, you've missed out and, unlike the Steam system, there is literally zero legitimate way to get those items. Charan's going to have a few extremely limited pets that he'll be able to give out, and collectors won't be able to get those. Is that fair? Is that any more unfair than the Steam micros?

I think you're getting a little indignant without considering a lot of the other stuff happening, and a lot of the stuff that has happened. I can understand some of your points, but I think you're fighting against this because it's Steam. Steam's micros and no-more artificially scarce than GGG's.
