Vaal Oversoul is the best designed fight in the game

I agree completely with you. When my daughter, Clara,fought vaal oversoul she felt very accomplished. The only fight that she felt more proud of was the one with Dominus. However, the fight with Piety was really boring and it made Clara almost quit the game.

The Vaal fight would be awesome if it wasn't for desync because lots of people have died to a desync slam. Because of this most people skip him in maps, and tend to let someone ranged kill him for act 2 progression in merciless.

IMHO the best designed Boss fight is Vaal also. Dominus just sucks, Piety is ok, Merveil is pretty good.

Desync? That is a value added feature. Kinda like being married. You get used to it.

Except when it loops it's position AI to be stuck at the bottom of the room.

Or when it does an instant slam with no arm animation after coming up.

don't really see how a boss that has no way to hit you other than desync is in any way good. Pretty much the easiest boss in the game. Or the hardest, with bad desycn luck. I guess if you have really bad ping, it could possibly be challenging, but that's not really a problem with the boss itself.

He needs a separate, faster melee hit imo; like cleave. But yeah he is my favorite fight.

Dominus is a badly designed boss in comparison with Merveil, Vaal and Piety.

Facetanking = standing in front of the mob and hit, not running away. If you run (even once) it's not facetankting.

Hmmm....yes, GGG tried too hard with Dominus. The overall fight is much better suited for classic turn based mechanics (or hybrid). Vaal is a great boss for ARPGs in general.

My first time vs Vaal in Domination league, had 650hp, about 30 lit resist as Spectral Throw Scion. He two shotted me with his laser. First one got the amp, both must have been crits.

I was so paranoid going to face him in Cruel, and then that time he turned out to be easy, didn't use his laser or smash attack, focused on my zombies and animated armor instead of me. Dropped an Ezomite Peak helm, thought to myself "At least it wasn't crown of thorns."
