You cant admit you did something wrong after you've been caught and call it honesty bud. LoL

Compare that to someone who robbed banks twenty+ times, should both these people get same punishment? Of course not. That's what justice is about: giving appropriate punishment.

Would you rather he kill one person you love, or 20 strangers?

#1 whose to say he actually only did it once?

#2 Botting is a capitol offense. I should have used murder in my original example :) Kill one dude, kill 20 you should still go to jail for life (or get the chair depending where you live)

If the person has no criminal history and killed just one person, you are more likely to get away with manslaughter. If you are a minor, you won't get a trial as an adult, which means you get reduced sentence in comparison.

Furthermore, there is something called "consecutive life sentences" which is precisely what is used to punish serial killers more than regular killers. And "Death sentence" may very well be used for the latter case but not for the former in places that allow such sentence.

Emotionally: 20 strangers. Seen from society utility: depends on how valuable to society the person I loved was in comparison to those 20 strangers. Assuming all have same utility, rationally I would prefer 20 strangers to be killed.

doesn't matter about comparing it to real life laws, it's online and they make the laws and you agreed to them when you sign up.

Comparing botting in a video game to real-life [Removed by Admin] murder? Seems logical to me!

I think a big step towards making punishments in online games more "fair", is when countries allow companies to efficiently sue players who break the rules of their games. That way, a 5-minute botter may get away with just a permanent ban, while a dedicated 200+ hour botter may face large fines in addition to a permanent ban.

Whatever validity any argument based on "He only did it once for 5 minutes." might otherwise have had has pretty well been negated by his actions since then anyway. Repeatedly creating accounts to spam the forums like this only make it worse.

I'd do worse than ban him... I'd let him keep playing until the end of the tourney and then retro ban him.
